Non-Shoot through glass.

Post by Kiko »

Quick question...

I have glass so people can see info a room, but I don't want them to be able to shoot through the glass, is there a thin layer I can slice in the glass (the glass is somewhat thick, but not really thick) so that when I player shoots into the glass they wont hit anything on the other side.

I put it down as a regular wall and just applied the glass texture but they can still shoot through it, is there anyway to stop this?

With the window selected, hit "n" to bring up the entities window and type

key health

value 10000

see if that helps. Should keep it from breaking.... for a while anyhow

I don't need it to keep from breaking, I need it so it can't be shot through.

I think surfaceparm glass already makes it shoot-through. Try putting a caulk brush inside the window.

I whipped up a room with a big pane of glass in it, that when shot. doesn't break, and people on the other side can't get shot. But according to you, thats not what you want. However, with glass selected, hit "s", bring up surface properties, select nodamage and hit apply. deselect glass and recompile.

Neil, you misunderstood him I think. He just wants the glass to stop bullets from getting through.

Forget all that other stuff............

Make a pane of glass using the glass texture from the common texture file. With the pane of glass selected, hit "s" to bring up the surface inspector. PUT a CHECKMARK in the boxes labled notsolid and weapon clip. Hit apply and ok... DESELECT the glass texture, save, recompile map. You CANNOT shoot through it, but you can walk through it.

Almost sounds like something to keep secret.........lol

Well if I was to do as you said with "S"

I could simply throw in a caulk texture to stop them from going through the class.

*** for someone who put caulk earlier to stop the bullet, I tried that and it doesn't work, but thanks for trying ***

Lol, come on guys, took about 3 posts to find out what he was after when it was pretty easy anyways!!

If you leave a gap between the glass and the chalk, it should work. a gap of about 3/4 should do it as i have already done before. Also, this stops walking thru the glass if you have also done the "S" propeties thing.

Snake......... whats he tryin to do ?

Also, if he did the first thing with the 10000 health, it would be the same as you're saying TODO with the caULK. Said he didn't want it.........?

what the heck does he want ?

I did as you said with the "S" thing. It didn't work at all.

So anymore ideas?

You didn't do it right !!

START WITH A NEW PIECE OF GLASS..... GLASS CAULK.... not a window texture

Make a pane of glass using the glass texture from the common texture file.

With the pane of glass selected, hit "s" to bring up the surface inspector.

PUT a CHECKMARK in the boxes labled "NODAMAGE" and "weapon clip"

no checks in any other boxes................

Hit apply and ok... DESELECT the glass texture, save, recompile map.

You CANNOT shoot through it, but you can walk through it.

YOU ARE RIGHT, IT COULDN'T WORK. SEE THE CHANGE ABOVE
" NODAMAGE" and " WEAPON CLIP" are the right ones......sorry

He wanted a window that was not a func_window but just see through and not shoot through. . if i remember correctly claulk does not allow bullets through it and the damage thing your on about is the health of a Func_window?!?!?!?!?! And he has just said the damage thing didnt work either so have you tryed a gap of 3 squares between the window and cauk.
(i dont mean make a brush with caulk on one side and a glass texture on the other btw, i mean a brush with glass, and then a NEW brush fully caulked 3 spaces away.)

btw, whats the point in your way if you can simply walk through it and shoot anyways?

calm down neil.

kiko this sounds like it will work fine, make sure you stepped through it right (i'd test it myself but i dont have MOH installed anymore and cant find my CDs..), to make it so players cant walk through just put a caulked brush inside it (not exactly bad mapping, i swear!).

i'd give you a better answer if i could find those CDs but it seems like it'd work fine.
