Don't use csg subtract. Make the arch the way you did. Then make small rectagular brushes above, and into the arch. When the brush is highlighted, select "e". After doing that, click on one of the corners, then click the other side of the brush a short ways up. This will create a sort of triangle. Several of these will work on each side of the arch.
Basically it says to make small brushes around and into your arch. Having done that, with the brush selected. hit the letter x.......... click on one corner of the brush, and then click the other side to make the brush "cut" itself off........ on an angle......... to follow the arch. Do it all the way around the arch.
Practice.......... make a brush............. while it's selected
hit the letter X
click on one side of the brush.... I think a blue dot appears.
click on the other side of the brush......... slightly higher.........
brush should cut itself on an angle......... hit enter and deselect

well how do the mappers make arches like i did and put them in a wall like i was doing without an outlined box. theres this map called fortwreck and it has an arch like this and which i an trying to build a similar map to fortwreck
Yes, it is key X, or the button with three dots. To use it, do the dots in a clockwise direction around the brush. If you like the cut, hit enter, if not hit escape and try again. If it cut off the wrong part, hit the key to the left of key 1 (~) and it will switch parts.
yay i did it all i did was i made a brush and went to curve>primitives>cylinder and it was an cylinder and i draged the cylinder to the wall and subtracted it and there was the top part of arch
and made a rectangle to do the bottom part like this
