Radio plays music when triggered..my music.

Post by Goldeneye090 »

I just set up a 1 room test map to try out this music idea I have...last time I tried adding music to a map I could never figure it out, even with the help of the background music tutorial on this site :(

I want to add a radio (forget what menu it's under..static something?) that when triggerred by a player, plays music. I want to use music I have downloaded or that are on my cds, instead of the music that comes with the game.

First, how do I get the music, from iTunes or windows media player for example, into the correct format for the game. And then, what folder should I put the new file into, the amb_stereo folder?

After I get that set up I'll try and work out the scripting, then post more if I have problems. Thanks :)

edit: got an idea to add on to that if anyone's interested in it: when the player triggers the radio, a menu comes up with a list of songs they can choose from, or set to play in a certain order..that would be so cool!! lol

i dunno about the list of songs to be played being possable, or if so it would be pretty hard core scripting.

PMd you.

You need to convert your music to MP3 and place it somewhere in the sound directory inside MoHAA/main. Then, depending on whether you want the music to be heard by ALL players or only the player in question, you must either stufftext playmp3 nameofyourmp3file to them or precache the sound with script master and then just playsound it.

pm wasn't about how to do the music thing..which I still have a problem with - all my songs are in MP3 format already, so I just want to pick one to test for now, but I'm not advanced at all in scripting and didn't understand anything in the last part of Rookie One's instructions lol, sorry:
you must either stufftext playmp3 nameofyourmp3file to them or precache the sound with script master and then just playsound it.
^^that part. what would the format of the script be? and would that be part of the main script or would it be in a seperate .MUS file?

Nay, you shouldn't actually touch the .mus files at all. Their name is a bit misleading, what they really do is handling the ambience sounds. And switching to different ambient sounds doesn't work in multiplayer at all. You'll have to learn basic map scripting first, m8.

Download this file and study how the radio and piano work.
