Weapon Moddeling Help
Okay, while i have some MoH Skinning experience, ive never actually made a weapon, rather than editing one. I wanted to know how to create a gun such as an M4, or anything. I just want to know EVERYTHING about how to start, and what tools i need, although so far I have Lightray3D. Any help is appreciated.
Is your model made yet ? You can do it all with lr3d . Is it other tools you want ? Going to the lightray forum may help you too . To start with you will need to make a model . Lightray can import 3ds models I belive so you can look around for some free ones too to get started . If you have the mohaa plugins for lightray you can load a mohaa weapon and study it a bit as well . Word of advice don't try to make your models too complex if you load a mohaa model you will see that a lot is done with textures . There are limits on the models as far as number of meshes you can use . You can get fairly complex but try to avoid it . As far as the limits go it is 24 surfaces ( meshes ) with 1000 texture verts each but a typical model probably only has a few meshes . Even as far as the limits go it is possible to make several models that get combined in the tik in to one .
You get the plugin at the lightray web site .

That is for gmax which you can actually use to model but any modeling program the idea should be the same . If you want to give gmax a try you can get it at

there is a plugin that will export your model as a mdl formated file that can be loaded into lightray . I will have to send it to you though , the plugin I mean .
