custom map downloader...

Post by A-thru-Z »

Please excuse me if this is in the wrong forum but my question does heavily involve maps...
Our clan has just started running a custom map server with some great maps in rotation, the problem is public players dont have them and it is empty most of the time...we would like as many players as possible playing these great maps. I'm aware of the custom map download(er) but that is client based and TBH most public players cant really be bothered to go and get them themselves...I was wondering if anyone is aware of a server based program that we could run that would direct the player to a download of the map required and possibly install it into their main folder?
My other question involves custom maps and mac users...one of clan members runs the game on mac and only gets to the load screen of the map yet to us he is ingame as spectate in the server....he has downloaded the MOHAA mac 1.9 update which is supposed to fix this aswell as fixing Malta (which he can play) are there any mac users here that know of a this problem and a fix?
Thankyou for your time and PLEASE keep making custom maps...it plays a major roll in keeping this the best FPH ever :D

jv's right, it cannot be done with MOH coding. the Q3 base that MOH is based off has all the code for client downloads as well as a bunch of other stuff, but due to hard deadlines and inexperienced coders, MOH never expounded on those features.

Thankyou very much for you replies....
what a shame that this feature of Q3 was never implemented :(
would have been great and so much easier for custom maps to be played by many players.
Well we will have to keep plugging the custom server as best we can until some genius comes up with a little program that can do it?
Thanks again...

For all you incoherent ninnies:
Missionary:Reverend is the uber-anti cheat of Medal of Honor. It is clientside and when run, will check EVERYONE of your MoH files looking for deviations. If it finds anything, all sorts of bells and whistles go off and you need to take care of it, for most, Missionary takes care of it for you. You can register your server on Missionary and send Black Bart, opperator of Missionary, all your files you want to be downloaded when you join the server. Then all players that join your game will download all your maps, skins, mods, etc.

No server to client downloads. Smell this right here. The real reason Call of Duty 2 reigns champion over wwII fps impo. If EA would have had that kinda support years ago who knows what the game could have been today. If it wasn't for sp script wizards for mp the game would have dwindled long ago.

Its server to client, jus not the same server, It downloads off 3rd party server.
But yea, It would be alot better and faster to have it built right in.COD sucks, You can only play so many ww2 games b4 it gets old.
BF2 is better IMO :P

I wish EA didnt give up on MOHAA, But they have no intensions on doing anything with it, They thought breakthrough was the answer.....Still didnt add alot of stuff modders was asking for, So breakthrough was a bust IMO

i wasn't impressed overmuch by either of the expansions. all content and bugs, nothing stable enough to be a winner like the original.

CoD won over the cs players who got bored with buying awps. Just a camp-fest, whoever see's who first gets the kill.

give me Unreal/Quake or give me... something to that effect.

EA isn't to blame, it's just the publisher. 2015 did a terrible job making MOH, if you start digging in it they basically took vanilla FAKK2, imported models and sounds, and SCRIPTED -everything-. I have doubts they even opened the code to do anything other than change the process names. The game came out great though, but they half-assed too much.

Fortunately, easy to mod.

You're a bit wrong there, Lizard. ;) When working on a proxy DLL, you realize how much they changed.

I agree that most of the stuff is horribly half-assed, though.
