After finding the error in the pk3, i no longer recieve the 'cannot find skelmodel' message, now, the game crashes.

Ah, now I understand, sorry didn't read your earlier post very carefully (it shows  )

This mostly likely means the .skd file is corrupt.. older versions (<=1.3.3) of the lightray mohaa export plugin make corrupted .skd files when you unlink and relink any bone.. it's a very stupid bug and afaik unfixable with this lightray version... I recommended (to chrisredfield I guess) to import the skd and skc in the latest lightray, and re-export. That should fix it I think.

Chris is the one who exported the SKD for me. he mentioned something about the bones not being properly assigned. My method of copying the torso from one model and puting it on the legs of another, wasn't as cut and dry as i'd thought. I wanted to rule out all other possibilities before saying my skd was corrupted. I haven't a clue on how to assign bones and it sounds intimidating. Is it something someone with my lack of skill level can complete, if so, are there any guides you can point me to? I feel like i've been working on this thing too long to just drop it now.

Yes it's (probably) not hard to fix, but you need a registered version of Lightray if you want to be able to export the end result to mohaa.
