Hey all!
I've just started learning mapping, and I've been looking around on the forums a bit. I just wondered if there is any point of learning MOHAA mapping, when the game has been out for years, and many people are mapping for newer games, such as CoD.
Does the "era" of MOHAA mapping belong to the past?

The question has been asked before - years ago and every passing year.
Games come and go now faster than the seasons - people come and go almost as fast. MOH is still here and of all the games, people who left to play others often come back to moh again and again.
All the newer games are more easily replaced by more new games. It is not likely you will be able to choose another that will have the staying power of MOH.

My answer is that MOH is very easily modfiable, has a number of nice things and tweaks you can do to it, and feel better than CoD or CS. It's nothing at all to change how your gun looks, or sounds, or how much it shakes when you shoot.
Games are becoming more restrictive because of hackers nowadays, it's not simple or accepted to modify your game, because so many people think you hack if you don't play stock. Some games don't give you a choice what you can do.
I certainly can't build a music player into CoD2 or CS:S, like i have with MOH. So why does MOH modding persevere?
Because you can.

However, custom maps are not very populair in MOH at the moment. There are some servers with custom maps but there are no people playing on them. Some clans play custom maps from time to time but thats quite it.
I can guarantee you that if you ever finish a map, it won't be populair and not many ppl will play it.
To get a better chance, you should look for games with an auto download, so the game will download the map that the server is running. This is not possible in mohaa which is quite a shame..

I think its more of a self appreciation kind of thing. You make a map and make it beautiful and complex and you feel good about yourself and then maybe find a group of 5 or 10 people to see and that just adds to the fun. You can quite literally make MOHAA a completely different game with mods and custom textures and map and models etc. Its great
