I struggle with setting up the sun direction to match a point on the skybox texture. Anybody have a good method or suggestion for setting the sun direction ? reference starting point ?

A while back somebody mentioned spawning an indy crate where you want the sun to be.... to get a reference point I guess. Didn't need to do it though.
Someone also posted an article from the rujacan projects' websight... not spelled right, I know. That might help you also.
It had a half globe with reference points to help make it easier.

Trial and error
.. do quick compiles (no lighting) and look where the sunflare is... should get it just right in about 4 tries

Ah.... this works well.
spawn a marker (or a single player spawn) at 0 coords on your map or use viewpos to get your player to 0 coords (harder).
point your crosshares at the point you want your sun and use coord.
the angles provided with coord are the proper angles for sundirection.

That's a neato approach too
