Ideal Worldspawn settings for...

Post by Caboom »

I'm looking for the right Worldspawn settings for my map. I'm trying for a nighttime map with very limited fog to no fog at all. I'm going for that crisp feeling. I have been trying out different settings but can't seem to find the right one. My skybox texture is the African night. Your help is greatly appreciated.

7 7 7

9 9 9

13 13 13

plug away til you get the right feel.

all the numbers don't have to be the same....... for example 7 12 6 ( don't know what it will look like ).

You said something about a little fog. Figure out what shade the fog is going to be... grey-tan-olive, etc. and work up an "ambience" to compliment it. you gotta experiment a little.

I've been doing that a little. My farplane is 4700, in order to rid the fog should I set it to 0 or 10000? Ambientlight is set to 8 8 8, can't get it to go lower... Light is 70, what does that affect? Do I need suncolor and sundirection? Thanks

Just click on the farplane and go down to delete. Hit enter and/or deselect. That would be in the entity inspector. ( "N" )

What do you mean "light is 70 " ?......... 70 70 70 for daylight ? That makes thwe whole map look like daytime.

If you want suncolor and direction, open mohdm1 ( the released files ), ( or use the bsp viewer to look at worldspawn info ).and look at it with notepad

Would changing the suncolor make a big difference?

Settings ? what settings ?........ you have your map loaded in radiant right ?

click In the 2d window .. hit the letter "n" on your keyboard.. when you select one of your walls or the sky to highlight it..... go back to the box that says key.... in that type ambientlight.... hit tab key.... in lower box, "key" type 70 70 70 for daylight.... ( full sun )... hit enter and de-select the highlighted brush. Your world will be bright as southern france map.

If you want it darker type 15 15 15 in the lower box. Doing this .. you will probably need to add light entities to your map.

How about properties rather than settings, does that make more sense? My ambientlight is 8 8 8, but its still pretty bright outside.

"Light" is not a worldspawn setting, remove it. If you remove the farplane settings, there will be no fog.

Try these:

"ambientlight" "10 10 10"
"sunlight" "25 24 25"
"sunflarename" "none"

moonlight would be slightly blue so makeing the blue value of the sunlight higher than the other 2 settings would make the light bluer . Light values are rgb 0 to 1 so change the last number .
