Ambient light wont go away.

Post by errlloyd »

Hey guys great site and great tutorials.

I an having a small problem with ambient light at the moment. I added it a few hours after i started mapping because i didn't think i was good enough to use real lighting, but not i've been mapping for a while and want to add a sun and lights and all that, but I cannot get rid of the ambient light i had form the start, this is how i added it in the first place, i think but it was a long time ago.

I built a sky box, selected that, pressed N, set ambient light 60 60 60.

Then later i deleted the sky box and added a new one.

Thanks for reading.

Regards lloyd.

worldspawn

"Worldspawn" is every brush in the map that has not been made into another entity -- which includes the skybox brushes. If you open your .map file with a text editor, like Notepad, you can edit the worldspawn properties at the top of the page.

well ambient light aint in the properties on the notepad doc, I must sound like such a noob lol.

I'll try some thing that from my limited experience might work, I really appreciate your help and if you know anything else that might help I'd love that too.

leak

Post by tltrude »

If there is a leak in the skybox (file > pointfile), the light compile will be skipped and the map will be full bright with no shadows.

Ambientlight

Post by tltrude »

Sure, post it. Also, could you discribe the problem again? What are you trying to get rid of? Ambientlight can only be added/removed in the worldspawn settings.

Here is an example of worldspawn settings.

{
"farplane_color" ".7 .7 .55"
"farplane" "13000"
"classname" "worldspawn"
"suncolor" "55 48 36"
"sundirection" "330 230 0"
"ambientlight" "7 6 4.6"
// brush 0
etc...

hit N to bring up the entity box now scroll to the very bottom highlight worldspawn, now delete the key and value for ambientlight
