Yeah, tought 'bout that kind of socks too... So, what is it? I'd like to get the PC fixed again soon 'cause I fear I might be loading my Notebook with crap now when playing MP

well winsock is windows Sockets. A technical specification that defines a standard interface between a Windows TCP/IP client application (such as an FTP client or a Gopher client) and the underlying TCP/IP protocol stack. BTW, I have another question: When playing MP, at the end, when the statistics (or however you wanna call 'em) appear, what does 'Ping' stand for? And how do they calculate the statistics in FT?

Ping is the time for the server to respond to your game.

So if u have a 0 ping. it takes no time to shoot the bullets from when u pressed fire.

32 takes 32 "time scale" to tell the server and game you pressed fire.

so epople with a high ping jump arround cos it dont know they pressed the buttons or what and isnt communicating right and then theydie and cry and leave the game and play on something else like solitare.

To be exact. Ping is the latency of the data packets between the client (you) and the server, in miliseconds. The higher the ping, the more laggy the game is. Lag is a pause in packet flow. You can tell you're getting lagged when e.g. you fire with a delay or are 'thrown' backwards - I mean, for example when you run along a street and suddenly you appear 10 meters back. It can be caused by heavy network traffic, low bandwidth and lots of other stuff. Generally, it's just a measure of the network performance.

The faster your PC is, the less you feel the effects of the lag, as it gets more CPU time to predict things and level the lag.

Have you adjusted you're settings in MOH?

I don't like Winsock either, I prefer Hyper Terminal to establish a connection then once I've set the IP, subnetmask and defaultgateway I switch over to Telnet.
I created a bat file for my ping
ping -t xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
I only use ping to check the status of the connection
And tftp commands for file xfers
TFTP-i xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx put filename.xxx flashigh

Come, on, solitaire is that crappy game which is installed on the computer anyway... I hate it, if you start (which is stupid enough) you won't be able to stop soon, makes you waste your precious time and so makes you angry and sad (that could result in a leaving-the-game-crying as well )
So, just delete it, you'll never wanna play it...

Sometimes it gets so slow, that the same pic stays for about six seconds , so I can't even get out of the program as the mouse thing is soooooooooooo slow; I almost kicked the computer to make 'im stop...
