I use yahoo messenger, thats what my friends use so its quite useful if I want to talk to them. is yahoo messenger bad ??

It would have been good if:
1. You could leave messages for offline contacts.
2. It wouldn't eat up so much memory.
3. It wouldn't integrate itself so much into the OS.
4. It wouldn't attack you with all kinds of adverts.
5. It wasn't made by M$!!!

i agree with 1 and 2. but 3... well it's designed for windows, to interact with it... i mean if you like programs being "alien" to the OS i guess that's your cup of tea...

and 4... wtf? where are ANY adverts?

actually come to it, i think Xfire is my favorite program of that type.

My first message hardware turns out to be the most reliable means of communication to date.

4. Only recieve calls when I want
5. And the biggest appealing feature, MS not required.

Integration is the bane of customization.

And its the main complaint by people who more then casually use windows.

Worse still, it is the trend of the future, with all companies marketing towards the most common consumer, sacrificing ease of customization for thier own integrated peripherals that can be hard to replace and/or impossible to remove. Just look at many modern automobiles, especialy in regards to audio equipment, which are becoming harder and harder to replace with a new system.

Very good point, Splaetos. That's why I love Linux - it's customizable in every aspect possible, including the system kernel.

y'know, maybe you should take the time to get used to windows, maybe just learn how it works. all this stuff is pretty easy to find without help. i just followed what i knew and there we have it.

Start>Control Panel>Add Remove Programs

click the third tab down, labelled "Add/Remove Windows Components"
the checked boxes indicate whats already installed. simply uncheck and hit the next button.

I don't remember exactly (I used MSN the last time some 2 years ago lol), but there were some tabs on the left that were supposed to show stock news and stuff, and opening them would have me drowning in popups.

oh those...lol yeah, i just took out the option of those (i think theres an option under preferences, i did it so long ago...). except for the games, i used to have mad chess games with a friend over MSN. generally involving both of us getting 8 queens and then trying to win.
