amen to that, my friends and i (at the ripe age of 13) used to jam in the kitchen of Dell's (where we were scum dishwashers) to the above. though as my music tastes sharpend, i prefered these davies classic lyics...
Don't know why I'm even bothering.
(Predictable)
Yeah, that's the mood I'm in.
Go out for a walk then I come back in.
(Predictable)
Yeah, the mood that I'm in.
(Predictable)
and this one from
low budget to this day has me pulled over on the side of the road until i can stop laughing:
Even my trousers are giving me pain
They were reduced in a sale so I shouldn't complain
They squeeze me so tight so I can't take no more
They're size 28 but I take 34
The Kinks (ray davies) created the hard rock guitar crunch that is forgotten or minimalized with today's bands, gave birth to the pop 'social awareness' lyrics that are sweetened to PCness now. i should start a thread glorifying to the greatness of the kinks.

...But give my daddy a job ?cause he needs one
He?s got lots of mouths to feed
But if you?ve got one, I?ll have a machine gun
So I can scare all the kids down the street
Father christmas, give us some money
We got no time for your silly toys
We?ll beat you up if you don?t hand it over
Give all the toys to the little rich boys
Have yourself a merry merry christmas
Have yourself a good time
But remember the kids who got nothin?
While you?re drinkin? down your wine
Father christmas, give us some money
We got no time for your silly toys
We?ll beat you up if you don?t hand it over
We want your bread, so don?t make us annoyed
Give all the toys to the little rich boys
Father Christmas was probably when I first really 'knew' of The kinks... Ive still yet to hear anything like it... Not your typical ligth and fluffy yule tide fare...
Woke up this morning, what did I see
A big black cloud hanging over me
I switched on the radio and nearly dropped dead
The news was so bad that I fell out of bed
There was a gas strike, oil strike, lorry strike, bread strike
Got to be a superman to survive
Gas bills, rent bills, tax bills, phone bills
I?m such a wreck but I?m staying alive
[look in the paper, what do I see,
Robbery, violence, insanity.]
Hey girl we?ve got to get out of this place
There?s got to be something better than this
I need you, but I hate to see you this way
If I were superman then we?d fly away
I?d really like to change the world
And save it from the mess it?s in
I?m too weak, I?m so thin
I?d like to fly but I can?t even swim
Superman superman I want to fly like superman

this 'newer' one is also good for the kinks telling it like it is (even amongst themselves):
Driven by hate, driven by hate
Driven by hate, driven by hate
Hate's the only thing we have in common
There's no escape, we'll always be this way
So we might as well just learn to live together
'Cos we're gonna be this way till our dying day
Driven by hate, driven by hate
Driven by hate, driven by hate
written by ray and dave davies concerning thier brotherly relationship that makes those two dorks from oasis look like the Siegfried & Roy.

the kinks are the band that everyone heres, and few know...
when your watching a good movie, and an oddly stirring song plays seemign to capture the mood perfectly, often enough its a kinks song...
most people prolly assume its a beatles song, specialy with the softer stuff...
liek the beatles, the kinks have an absurd number of really good songs.
Supergrass is a newer brit band that kinda reminds me of the kinks.
what is it with the british and musical talent anyway? Compare any random US band vs a random UK band, and like 7 out of 10 the brits would win.

Man you cant take supergrass seriously, the leadsinger has some very very savage side burns man, he is a lost cause stuck in the 50's.
Im liking the kinks though
edit: I totally hate the beatles, only good song they made was that tune from ferris beulah, twist and shout, then again I only think that song worked in that context apart from that one scene beatles for me are absolute crap.

ruby...i too at one time hated the beatles due to the radio playing only thier more pop sounding hits. now in later year's reflections i've grown to enjoy thier less pop sounding music, abbey road as a whole is something i never would have had in my mp3 (then album) collection but now listen to once a year.

yea me too, I really don't listen to the beatles much but I have alot of respect for their work, I grew up jammin to their stuff and if I catch em on the radio I'll usually stay with that station. The beatles kicked ass in their days
