In my experience, 99% of all voice chat problems are caused by the microphone itself.

Rules

1. Never buy a "noise canceling" microphone.
2. Throw away any boom mics or hand held microphones that came with your computer--they are junk!
3. For gaming, use a headset with mic attached and turn your external speakers down (not off).
4. Make sure the Windows volume control for the microphone is not muted.
5. Click the "Advanced" button for the mic volume and make sure the boost is on--it has a bad habbit of turning itself off.
6. Eliminate as much background noise as you can.
7. Ask your friends which headset with mic they use--if they sound good.

Well, that is all I can think of at the moment. I hope something in all that will help. Btw, I use a brand named "Jensen" that only cost me $12 on the internet--with shipping. But, I don't think they make it, without noise canceling, anymore.
