Adam Rybacki ,

Thank you for your time in responding and your acceptance to help me. I need you to assist me in the claim of my money deposited in a Secuirity firm in London , so you can help me invest it in your country for me due to my conditions here in Zimbabwe i cant do it myself so i need your help .

But Before we proceed,I would like to know a bit about you.How old are you ? What do you do for a living ? Your Country ? Your Phone number ?

I would also like to know how you intend to disburse the money when you receive it since you cannot do this in cash although money order is likely to be the best way of disburing the money.

As you know the amount of money involved is quite a lot money{$17,750.000} and we have to give a serious thought as to how to avoid the tax office getting hold of the money. The money is in cash and in a $100dollar bill inside a safe box kept in a security firm in london .

The company may require that you come to london for the signing of the release documents will you be able to travel to london for the claim of the box ? And will you be able to take care of the expenses involved in the transaction.eg, your travel cost and the customs clearance fee which has to be paid to the Security company in london before you claim the money box.

I also want to ask that you keep this venture confidential until it is successfully completed to avoid any complications.I also want you to know that this is a legit money which i made as a verteran farmer here in Zimbabwae.

You will have a share of 20% of the total fund as soon as you claim the box on my behalf for your assistance.

I have attached to this mail a scan copy of my passport for you to know who i am so i need you do the same. I look forward hearing from you immedatelty so we can begin the process of this claim .

Sincere Regards,
Richard Duke

Dear Mr Duke,

A friend of mine has received an e-mail from you about your
situation and forwarded it to me. I'm a Polish businessman who owns
a mortgage loans company and I'm interested in helping you out.
Could you please send me some guidelines as to what I should do?

Best regards,

Adam Rybacki
...with 2 'scans of his passport'. Very poor forgery:

Just look at the font - good, ol' courier new. ;) And he misspelt FARMING on the other one. :P It also says 'hair colour: brown', but the guy in the photo is as gray as a pigeon. :P

This is starting to be fun!

What do you think, should I play dumb or tell the guy that I can see it's a fake? :D</EDIT>

Dear Mr Duke,

This sounds like an easy matter. I still do not quite understand
what prevents you from flying to London and claiming the money in
person. I am still very interested in helping you, though.

I am a 42-year-old owner of a mortgage loan company, I have a wife
and am a proud father of two children. I live in Krakow, Poland.

As to my plans for the money, the $3400 would give me a considerable
boost, as I am currently preparing to buy a large share packet in a
local bank.

I would be very well able to travel to London and claim the box,
however, I have no proof that the money is indeed there. Could you
send me some kind of document to prove that?

A scan of my passport is attached.

Yours faithfully,

Adam Rybacki
*giggles* That passport image is just a useless file I found in my temp directory, he'll never open it! :D I even made as much effort as to put a valid JPEG file header at the beginning of the file in case our Zimbabwean farmer is a computer geek.

If he moans about the image not working, I'll have to send something in, so I'll have to fake one. :P

The guy's not responded for a couple of hours, I've got the feeling he's trying to fake some document to prove the money is there. :P

<EDIT>ROFLMAO, there will be no problem forging a passport. :P</EDIT>

well as i have done a fair few times.. print it, crunch it up abit.. (makes white, "worn in" looking marks" and then scan it back in again.. does the job like the real thing. (or i do have some photoshop brushes that look like creases.)

Added you on MSN, Snake. ;)

Tada! The scammer replied:
Adam,

Thanks for your prompt response . I did receive your detailed mail but your attached passport was empty so I need you resend it again via email . My reasons why I cant do the claim myself is that I have pending cases am facing with the Zimbabwe Government due to my farm land been seized and also I would find it difficult to find a visa to travel to london .

Now listen very well since i have gotten your informations i will now request my personal lawyer to draft out a PA on your behalf and send by fax to the Security company in london .

The power of attorney (P.A) is authorizing you to claim the box on my behalf in london.

When I have done this I will then forward to you the contact of the security company for you to contact them and arrange for an appointment to travel to london for the claim of the money box.

I also want to let you know that this venture must be kept confidential until you have successfully secured the box in your position.

I have attached to this mail a picture of the box of money for your record .This photo was taken by the insurance company before the box was moved to london from Zimbabwe. I will contact you as soon as the PA is ready.

Warmest Regards,
Richard Duke
Nb:Pls provide me with your phone number so i can call you .
He sent a in photo of the box:

I can already tell that the image of the passport and the photo were made using different software. Here's a look at the JPEG headers:
From the 'passport scan':

Code: Select all

 ě ? JFIF P P ? Exif II*
From the money box photo:

Code: Select all

 ě ? JFIF █ ?
He's definitely up to something, just don't know what yet.

Anyway, I think I'll make him wait for a couple of days. Let's see what he does. ;)

<EDIT>It occured to me I can check the message headers from the emails. I found some interesting info. This comes from his first mail:

This one is from Iran!
I guess the guy's using some kind of anonymous proxy system to cover his tracks. It's some fishy business!</EDIT>

It's probably two or three guys in on the scam, thus different programs and locations. i've known many Egyptian and Iranian tech-savvy people, i wouldnt be surprised if it's something like that.

the plot thickens!

however this sounds like more than a minor scam, he's either a terrorist (the iranian link makes me think this, but that's my stereotypicality) , or a crack farmer who's close to getting caught, this sounds most likely to me since he said his land was being seized and he never said what he grew AND, 17 million USD is a LOT of money for a farmer to make anywhere on the globe. he could be looking for a quick way out or, more likely, a safe place for his earnings. I doubt he'd use you in too much of an instrumental role since you could turn on him at any second (like helping him out of the country, you could easily tunr him into this soverign they have) or strand him somewhere.

ANY WAY IT GOES, this guy has too many inconsistancies to be legit.
