Really JV, how do I do that? The texture looks like the night sky [check the link at the top of this thread and see what you think], but how do I fix it through say notepad?

Generally notepad is a dangerous program to use, although it can be done. I'd advise a more advanced text editor though. At least make a copy of your original map file first.
Then, search for 'sky'. You'll find a number of matches. As soon as you find a texture that differs from the others, you've located your phantom brush. Just remove the entire brush from the .map file and you should be fine.

Any suggestions on an app to use [and why is notepad dangerous]?
Thanks for your help.

JV YOU HAVE DONE IT
I have found the rogue brushes and there are loads of them, but I have no idea how they got there [the brush was sky/africanight].
I will delete the brushes and recompile.
You may have just saved my first map!!

Notepad uses a poor text encoding system, placing linebreaks everywhere.
Also it tends to randomly switch on word-wrap and older versions can't:
- Open large files.
- Find and Replace
Even the newest versions of notepad have bugs and can't find a string of more than one word.
Crap I'd say.
