Personally, I've never met a new mapper who wasn't aware of being a new mapper, and who thought his map being the best map ever. I also never met one who didn't appreciate constructive critizism. At the latest, when he gets a "real" review, he'll know anyway and then he might have spent days and weeks on building rubbish... and this might be much more frustrating.mohaa_rox wrote:but we must also not let the creator feel depressed and disappointed, so he won't continue to map.
for example, if u were to create a map, then we say "Aw man! that sux! sux hard! my 3 yr old brother could do better!" u think he will quit mapping?![]()
i think just don't be too harsh with new mappers.
There's a slight difference between "Ur map sux!" and "U should add coronas!" and - imho - the latter is what a new mapper wants to hear when he decides to show his map to the forum.
P.S.: Monaco_rox?

You know, the best way to get better as a mapper is ... ok, more than one way, but a few suggestions:
1. Keep mapping! Try new stuff, new ideas etc.
2. Join a game on-line and run around watching play, checking out map layouts, design elements and especially DETAILING. This can be really helpful and inspirational too!
3. Look at A LOT of custom maps! See what styles you like/dislike. Look for cool new ideas to mimic...not steal, but be inspired by. No one likes copycats...not when you were 6 and not now.
4. Don't be an idiot. If you've got issues, ask on the forums and be SPECIFIC about what you want help with and ALWAYS use a to-the-point 'subject' line... no crap like "help..."; more like "help with doors" or such.
5. KEEP MAPPING!!!!!!!! Can't tell ya how much it helps to keep working.
AND MY MOST PROFOUND ADVICE**** DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES BUILD A MAP IN LESS THAN FOUR WEEKS... unless it is a battle in a shoe box! Take your time, be thorough, be ANAL about it. Keep testing it, look at it from every possible angle and play style. Detail it; give it 'feeling'. DO NOT RUSH, being in a hurry makes crap for maps. ALIGN the damn textures and brushes, makes all the difference! (OK, so I should go by the name "TextureNazi". But I am 100% serious. My best maps take me oer 200 hours... one or two are pushing 400+ hours. It pays off, trust me.
That's my blithering 2 cents.
