well,i think im now not being lazy when i say that when i want 2 know about doors i have 2 do a search 2 know something about the angles then another search 2 know something about the sounds and .......other than the tut on this site.one detailed tut would be really helpful  .

i was always wondering y u put a door that opens and closes near ur recycling bin .i never put the mouse on it 2 c the link b4 (thats the same reason i didnt know the recycling bin was a link not just a pic  )

u're right. if it's okay for Tom, I'll add his explanations to my page 8-)
and the 'link' was rather ment to be a temporary solution when I was still hoping to find it in the tut section

most of these pics below the threads are links, that's why i thought it wasn't neccessary to explain... how do u like the new door?

Hi! Question for TlTrude,

I like your map and I tried to make my own basement stormdoor, the door spins the right way but in the middle I tried adding an origin but the doors do no pick it up I copied your doors to my map to test if the script is right and your doors work fine with the scipting in my .scr file.

what am I doing wrong I dont want to copy your doors I want to be able to make my own?

I did the doors script_object and I didn script_object for the origin and then I also tried just a brush with the script texture Func_rotatingdoor.

hmmm

I can't really tell what you are doing wrong, but why not just use my doors? You can change the shape and texture of them. What kind of doors are you trying to make?

Each door brush, and its origin brush, must be one script_object entity. Click on one door and hit Ctrl E to highlight both brushes.

u didn script_object... mmm, is there a "'t" missing or a "n" too much? anyway, the origin and the door brushes must not be two separate script_objects, but they have to be one script_object all together.

u proobably got the angle of rotation wrong ,thats y it rotates from the middle .try playing about again with ur angles until it works

note:u should select the origin and the door brush 2gether then make em a func_rotatingdoor.

Thx for the reply first of all,

I want to feel like I made this on my own otherwise I would just use your doors (Awesome job). How do I make the brushes and then make them Script_objects? Every time I do that all my brushes in the map turn blue and it messes up my environment in the game.

I meant to say 'did' and not 'didn'

I did a 'Script_object' (Textured door) for my door and did 'Script_object' (textured origin) for the hinge/origin and even tried adding a simple origin textured brush with a 'Func_rotatingdoor'.

Anyway that didnt work so if they both have to be 'Script_Object' at the same time how do I do it without the rest of my map screwing up?

errm, what is a stormdoor? if it's a normal door, why not try the door tut below? but it probably is something special...

when u have nothing selected and Shift+click in the 3D-view on a brush, it ought to be selected. If u go on shift+clicking other brushes, they all become 'selected'. Once u have selected this way all brushes the door is made of PLUS the origin brush, you can then right-click on any of these selected brushes in a 2D-view. The entities-list will open and u can choose whatever u want. Now, ALL these brushes together are ONE entity (either a door or a scriptobject or whatever). And that's how u should do it.

I tried it that way, I made the door brush and the origin brush and the selected the Script_object but that is what turned all my brushes in the 2d windows into blue highlighted items and when I compile it creates a messed up .bsp map.

I'm new at mapping but I know the basics

sneak peek just starting this one.

maybe u clicked select complete tall which might have selected alot of stuff in ur map .
anyhows trying again wouldnt hurt, make a brush and texture it with whatever u want ,after ur done with it, make another brush on the hinge of ur doors (the area that doesnt leave the wall) then turn it into a script_origin .after that select that origin and the door brush (shift +click) and make em rotating door.that should make ur rotating door ,take a look at wackos door tut 2 explain all the entity window keys and values and also 2 help u with the angles

Entity NOT created, brushes not all from world
