How is the FPS? It is a tough decesion over quality over gameplay. I think it should be somewhere in between.

Unless you have an ATI card that doesn't render transparencies very fast, I think you will find my maps perform pretty well for all the crap I put in them. Don't look at my fps. Look at the triangle, vertice and mtex counts. I'm re-using a lot of the same textures (just rotating and scaling them different) to keep mtex down and I doubt you will find any place on my finished map where you can see 5000 triangles. Check the triangle count of some of the better custom maps. You will see they runs upward of 50k.

Making a map like Bloody Ridge (or my Swamp map) always intrigued me because you aren't supposed to be able to do that sort of map with the Q3 engine. I usually see some picture somewhere and get obsessed with making a map of it.

All the foliage is done on reduced complexity 3 x 3 patch mesh to save face count and make it easier to render. Of course, you can only see one side of it while you are mapping, so sometimes it doesn't look quite like you thought it would.

That sounds um.. addicting balr. Ive always wanted to do 'complex' outdoor/nature maps with lots and loads of foilage (like a jungle map or something) but never could find or tried to make the thick foilage and stuff..

I can't wait til this map comes out!

Sometimes mapping gets me down when you go to the trouble of making soemthing pretty like balr14 here has done and guys want it to run like 2 boxes joined by a hallway. I have to do some serious testing on lan soon to figure out what is really acceptable and what isnt. keep those pretty maps rolling out mate.

:)

It kind of looks like MOH:PA, with all that foilage.

Yeah, I was trying to prove I could do foliage just as well as their new engine could and I could pretty well match their early maps. But they showed the latest maps and blew me away.

Hmmm :) I personally love it when there's some human structures in the bushes... like some small bunkers 8-) - they can also provide real solid cover instead of only concealment like the bushes - but not sure if that would be historically correct.

Or a spider hole, maybe you could make the cover a door that can be closed :?

There were several native dwellings at the base of Bloddy Ridge, just shacks, really. Sorry, I didn't show you an image of the right side:
