I wouldn't advise using ctrl F for most things Mj other than whats previously said for doors and the like.
Unless your walls etc have been built exactly the right size to contain the texture it will distort.
Textures on the whole are handled better by a graphics card if the size is in divisions of 8....ie if a wall size can be divided by 8 then the card itself has to do less work.
This of course is not always possible...iv'e had to down scale some of my textures .53x.53 of the actual size to fit certain areas which is a pain but the overall effect is worth it.

Well not necessarily 8, but also any base 2 numbers work, the same for brush sizes, like no 51 units long and 79 high, etc....

Numbers like:

2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048, 4096.

Are good to use for textures and brush sizes...
