JUST SOME INFO FOR YOU ALL. I took that place with the plane and the tank and church from another map, here is the dnload link for it

http://bb.1asphost.com/ilikefungus/NewCity.bsp

i called it "newcity"

i still wasnt perfect at mapping then and im not yet but i am better now. In that map, i used "notexture" instead of caulk so theres 1 screw up. and i used "copy selection" to integrate the maps, but i forgot to highlight a couple of peices from "newcity". So thats y the map is a little screwy.

I'll have to download it for a better look. With that in mind, I wil make no assumptions or judements regarding it's gameplay valuel. But your screenshots seem to cover just about everything in the creation arena. It seems like most everybody is being pretty diplomatic in here. So I'll be a little more critical.

Just by looking at the screenshots, it is rather easy to see that the construction is very sloppy. The map seems to be full of intersecting brushes. Those that don't intersect are just blocks stuck together with no mitering of the sides. That leaves you with a lot of overlapping surfaces and makes the map look like it was created out of building blocks. The textures are stretched in places, and you have floor and ground textures used for walls. Some textures are just mismatched. There are other places where you can see thru the ground to the skybox because the brushes don't line up. There are just too many of these things to name them all.

I also think there are some rather strange design choices here. The giant plane stuck in the ground is one. The odd trench down the alley. But what seems really odd is the floating structure stuck in the trees. I'll have to download it to get a better look at that. Maybe it's just the perspective of the screenshot. There are a lot of shapes and things stuck in the ground or sticking in and out of walls that also seem to have no design purpose.

If this is really your first map, I would suggest you go through the tutorials some more and keep practicing on a smaller scale. Learn the techniques of proper construction before tackling a full-size map. Then when you do, plan it out beforehand, and then take your time building it right. Then add the bells and whistles in the details. It's possible that the design of your map will be quite fun to play. But construction errors will take away from the experience and will probably keep a lot of people from playing at all.

I've had my own share construction errors to deal with. And I know what a pain in the butt it can be to go back and fix them when it would have been simpler to build it correctly the first time.

In general, this map reminds me of a piece of abstract art. There is a whole lot going on that I don't understand. But that doesn't really matter. What's important is that you create what you want and enjoy doing it. People will always be criticized for their ideas so it's up to you to decide if the criticism is warranted or if you even give a rat's arse.

Sorry, I'm not trying to be mean. But I'm not going to blow smoke up your butt and tell you it looks good either.

Diego? dont u know what A TREEHOUSE is...

and i never said anywhere in this i was an expert...
i maybe the worst mapper alive
and i was going to make a trolley thats why that giant whole in the slope is for. But the script wont load corrrectly.

Anyway those screenshots have already been outdated...
ive made many versions of this map with updates and addons. Those feild areas are now farm yards. That city area.. it is old and one of my earlier works.(when i said this was my first map, i meant it was my first really good map in my opinion. Plus it is my first DOWNLOADABLE map ive posted.) the city is VERY messed up and i used COPY SELECTION to integrate NewCity(you can download it from the first page) and the newcity is SCREWED UP!

Finally, i never said i wanted a perfect map. If you want, ill post the .map file up if YOU want to make it so perfect. Sheez, you laid it on way too thick in yer criticizm.

master-of-fungus-foo-d, you seem to have some problems with accepting critism... I don't know why you posted the map here but my best guess would be to get some feedback... and when someone like Diego brings up really good and true points you might want to treat him a bit nicer :?

Also I don't know if I understood you correctly but 'stealing' things from other maps is a big no-no :x

Looks like a nice map. Some things I saw:

Some of the roof textures need to be rotated.
that fire hydrant looks huge.
Where the roof meets the walls should be some trim to seperate roof from wall.

Im not sure about that wall texture u have on the ground :?

Keep working on it, it has potential.

I do try to be nice about other peoples maps, but.....There are alot of brushes out of alignment. I don't know how people do that because when I put things together I make damn sure everything is aligned perfect.

The first time I saw "Metalof honorland" I freaked out
Mistakes every where I looked. Sorry BigHead, thats just the truth.

If you try to build a map quickly thats what it will look like.
