Mods-R-us stance on this -

This dispute as far as we are concerned is between MJ and AlienX - the 2 people involved in the creation of this mod.

{SFX} Involvement in the server is purely backup support and testing on their server, which we co-named Mods-R-us Server 2.

The Mod in question we requested it be removed from the server until the dispute is solved and both parties are happy - other than that we can not really get involved as it doesnt concern us.

I also wasnt aware AlienX was in some group - not that that matters in this instance as its between those 2 people.

My views on copyright ... err why? aint we here to share?

For Mods-R-us

My god....What a selfish self opinionated person/group of people, your well out of it Mj.
My own opinion is to ban these people (whoever is responsible for this pathetic behavour) from community sites like these where they have gained their knowledge from others but yet are only interested in self gratification.
I will lead by example and share my .maps with the rest of the community in the coming weeks and anyone/group who doesn't hold the same sense of community should be ashamed.
Remember copywritters...you need an audience and also an element of decency.
I cant code/script but if i get hold of this I will make sure I use it and then see you children sue me.
Pathetic, grow up.
Seere.

MJ's first mistake was haveing someone else make him a mod . You can't really copywrite Ideas that is like saying I had the idea to put a screw top on a soda bottle I should sue all the soda companies . Anyone can come up with an idea or hundreds of ideas a night if you told someone well don't cry if they make it first . I think if Alienx did the work then it is his mod , if he made a promise to give it to someone then that is what he should do . I don't see why MJ is so upset was he going to claim it as his mod ? I think Alienx should live upto his promise if he made one and then be more carefull about agreeing to make something for some one . I think the copywrite issue is a non issue but it is between them and up to them to work it out .

The point isnt legality here, it's more ethics, which dont matter much anyways, they're jsut a way to keep people n line without hurting them. people without them sem to profit the most, whcih is strangely looked down upon in the world.

Yeah, as Lizardkid says, its not so much legality as ethics... I gave this mod idea, on the expectance that i could use it in the MoH: Paintball mod, i said that other than that it was all his, he could release it as he wished etc. But when he turned around and bit me in the arse, so to speak, by saying he didnt want to release it, i was kinda stunned... later on, when i had persuaded him to give the script, i was shocked when he asked my real name for a licence!! Its not like I care about people knowing my real name, i just dont feel responsible enough to mess around with licences and things... like messing with burning toilet paper... :P

All i wanted was a mod... instead, i lost a friend to the law :? :(

*I fought the law, but the, law won...* :)

So what type of game mode was it?

I'm a bit tempted to re-create it and make it better and release it under the "GNU public licence" ( basicaly: do whatever you want, but release it to the public if you do :) )

You cannot copyright a script. He was just giving you the runaround.

Oooo VIP. I played that game mode in Americas Army. It was pretty cool, although there was only one map for it.

Anything you make is automatically copyrighted and you are the copyright holder. That's a good thing though because in theory it should stop those guys trying to sell your maps/mods/scripts on ebay.

Copyright your scripts isn't bad - after all you don't want someone to copy your script and claim credit for it - getting back to a promise obviously is a bad thing though there are worse crimes on this world
