Got a tuned 2600M Barton @4000 and 1gig ram. A standard compile takes about 7hrs. I started one -final and stopped it after Mohpile saying 40hrs left.

Don't take this for literal. Yesterday I started a compile which then was saying 165h left.

Nevertheless today (after 10h) it had finished

There are sections in ur map taking longer (and making the estimated time looking higher) and others that might be faster to compile.

Seem's like to me a map this large you would build a new building or watertower or whatever in a seperate map. Compile it and check it out, once your sure it's perfect make it a prefab or just copy it into your big map.
Is that logical?

this is gonna sound liek spam but that's what i do, i have a persistant map i call messabout.map. it's jsut various test junk i've made. compile time is nil and i apply artificial settings to the map according to whatever map a building or LOD or whatever is going to go into.

dangit roach.. why do you make my maps look terrible.. crappy...sucky.. disgustibngly small and.. well my mapping ability isnt equal to my mapping creativity.. i get bored after a while.. congrats roach.. it looks great...(PS...my computer would take FOREVER to compile that... my parents would never let me keep my computer on for that long)

Eh... why? Is there a moral or economical limit on how long a computer should be on?

they pay the electric bill
some people say "its only 5p a day" or whatever others say " thats an extra ?1825 that could be avoided" and others just find it better to turn it off.

let me ask this. its off topic but.. would the compiler still work on hibernate mode?

no, it takes active memory, hibernate is extremely limited.
i have my comp on all day (and some nights) and shut it off for about 5-9 hours per day and our power bill isn't over $200.

as lizardkid said, no, it wont compile on hibernate mode, BUT it doesn't crash either when u set ur pc in this mode, so u can - even during compile - calm ur mom and dad by "switching it off" for some hours and continue ur compilation as soon as u may

I never turn my pc off
I reboot about once or twice a week. My electric bill for Nov=42.00 dollars and Dec=49.00 dollars. I live in a 3K Sq. foot house.
