Thanks

I'm going to do it through petitiononline.com I had one for Mplayer.com a while back that 4000+ signatures so hopefully this one will do well. I'm well aware there will probably be opposition to it, although I can't see why they would oppose such a thing... and I really don't want any glory from it I just want to see the community grow because in Rainbow six it died... because Red Storm wouldn't support the game.
http://www.petitiononline.com/smplayer/ I think that is it

General Death wrote:They dont even listen to there own dev team which has been on sites like TMT and have told us that they asked to produce the tools but EA shot down there request.
If they wont listen to there own team will they listen to the modding community....doubt it
The main problem is that the dev team said EA wont release a SDK because they, for some odd reason, believe they
have to support it. If they only understood what this site and others like it do....support modding.

This is interesting. Why don't the developers release their own tools? If they would do their development on such tools off the EA clock, there should not be a problem, unless the "support" issue is not the real reason. EA might pull the non-compete issue and loss of corporate assets and intellectual property. Source code would be a major issue!!
One would hope that they are using better tools than what we have. It?s amazing that none of them have leaked out.
The way to get them to listen is to make a strong business case. Money talks and lots of money jumps up and screams. Product management thinks on these terms. EA has a very large and diverse product line; MOHAA is but a small segment. Tool development is expensive, and management has a hard time seeing the increased revenue from such development. I worked for such a company, ?put a band aid on it so that it works and get it out the door?. Yea, they pay for their nearsightedness, but the ?fast trackers? responsible are gone when s#!t hits the fan.

Previously, there was a MOD called German assault. I downloaded their Multiplayer demo which the program they built and design. They have their own loading screen, and I saw how they saved their Single Player maps. I told myself that I must have this MOD when it will be released. That was about 3 months ago. But now the MOD has been killed. Thanks to EA AGAIN for the lack of SDK.

I for one do not see it all black really.
I started mapping becouse of MOHAA, there simply is not another game out there like it, well I haven't played them all but I speak from what I have seen.
I got inspired by the SP missions in the game and I for one just wish I could make something similar in quality, let alone add things to it or hope to create something different.
What we have in our hands now, as limited as it is, does enable us to at the very least recreate and expand on the original and create exciting new missions.
I don't mean to insult or offend anyone but lets see some work with what we have before talk of 'mods' and highly inspired ideas. We have seen only a few maps that come even close to the original MOHAA. Why is there this incredable need to create new objects when most things we now have, have not yet been fully utilised. Are there no ideas for missions out there that don't require a new granade or vehicle?
Why is there this talk of giving up???
I would dearly love a decent SDK - just recently I posted a pic on this site of a model I am making in the hope to one day include it in MOHAA - but just the same, I have so much more to learn and so many ideas I can map as it is now, that SDK or no SDK there's plenty there for me.
Anyway, what I am trying to say -
Is there a future for MOHAA? HELL YEAH
We have 'some' tools, they may feel like we're working with broken fingers, but we have them.
And I for one didn't spend endless hours looking through scripts and learnning to use MohRadiant for nothing. I aim to keep doing it even if I end up running the last little MOHHA webpage on the net.
Besides, what else is there that comes even close?
Quit the site? - HELL NO
It's getting better and stronger day by day and it would not be the same without the Surgeon at the helm.
Cheers,
Mirek
Ea shmEA - They are in it for profit and giving us an SDK will make them $0 so I can understand why they don't care. They have much more lucrative projects going I am sure.

We'll ive followed in the background for quiet some time now - i left the day of defeat (half life mod) community some time ago, with the intentions of 'upgrading' to a new engine, and following on from dod, mohaa seemed to be the next step up (ww2).
There is only so much a level editor can do for a community - and not a very good one at that. I mean, has anyone noticed its bloody bugs?!
EA probibly see themselves in the situation that valve were, however valve saw potential in the mods like CS and DOD, and decided to support them - EA probibly think that they would have to do as much support as valve did. This is utter pish, and we all know valve done it cause they wanted to do it - cause they saw what CS was - not felt obliged to do it!
It would be better if the bloody editor was a bit more stable though

As someone wrote (think it was surgon) - there is hardly any decent 3rd party maps out there!
Its a sad situation - alot of people have walked away, and alot are about to - HL was valve's sole product, EA get their dev houses to rush, and release ASAP to get as much out.....
It is now dec 29th 2002 - they told us there was a updated 'sdk' (if you call it that) around xmas.. if they could make the editor more stable, and add in the spearhead stuff, there is still life left - but with no support to mods - many will follow the path to other games...

Don't expect the new editor to be more stable. It's not designed to run on anything but EA machines.

Over the past year part of my life has been dedicated to creating a powerful and compelling modification. Our team has come so far only to meet the end with defeat. More than 6 months of our lives have been spent striving to bring the MOHAA community one of the best modifications possible. We have devoted thousands of hours of our time to make this modification come alive and succeed. We have become the most popular and anticipated modification for MOHAA. Yet before us stands a towering wall. One that is guarded by a ferocious beast filled with greed and self-interest. Ironically the same beast that created this community, is now preparing to destroy it.

I recently said this at this link,
http://www.modtheater.com/forum/showthr ... genumber=2
Well I am about to have a look at ut 2003 got it just yeaterday. I hate the idea of learning all over again, like a school boy. I sometimes wish mohaa didnt lewer me here from cs. I had that whole thing down models and all, I was about to go onto svencoop, recon I woulda been happy with that. I've spent easily 3/4 of my mapping time doing test maps to try and find out how things worked. In retrospect its been a big dissapointment, and spearhead was a money grabbing joke.
Anyway the topic at hand, for this to work it needs to be ruled with an iron fist, and have a just a few involved to start, people who see the vision exactly for what it is and are willing to work theyre buts off.
Bye
At the monment I really dont know what to think. To make things better for us we should think inside the "box" and concentrate on what we can do and not what we cannot.
Another point is it seams that the cream of mappers have ended up at mohaa, thats got to say something.
Bye guys ......... great site. 8)

Damn, all this is rather disheartening to hear. Just started mapping myself but now I'm not sure if I should really make an effort doing it with MoH or not. I live in Vancouver and know several people who've done business with EA here, either as employees or in outside business dealings (like selling them furniture) and from all accounts the upper management are rude, pushy and arrogant. Dissapointing to say the least.

Maybe we are going about this all wrong. We should go after the "Creator" himself. But "Lord Spielberg" may make us use walkie-talkies instead of Thompsons and mp40s.
A snail mail campaign might have greater impact. There are host of names in the credits! The ones that would count, are those in upper management.

I just wanted to say how helpful it has been to have this site around! The other one I frequent, to remain nameless, but you know who I mean, is great too.... or was months ago. What I like about this site is:
1. it is still relatively small, in a good way. You don't get a lot of horsesh*t and horsesh*tters here. Mostly good, informative stuff.
2. good admins who take the time to really answer questions and seem to know the site inside and out and how to point people in a good direction.
3. yeah, EA sucks, sucked before, and undoubtably will continue to suck. Big freakin' deal. I know how vital the SDK is and how much life it will give to the community, BUT........
4. through sites like this one slowly the inner working of the SDK will be cracked, not ALL of them, but just look at Scorpio's work, and the huge leaps in scripting every day!
5. See #4.... this site, and many like it are the keys to undoing evil!
Ok, enough with the numbers... I think .map is great and would hate to see it go, especially when I feel that in a few weeks I've come to feel that I have 'friends' here who can and WILL help me! And I'd hate to loose this site when I feel that I actually have useful tidbits to share with others.
Just my thoughts, but seems to echo those of many!
