people people! One day and you turned this into a 2 page discussion!
Playing MOH:AA, or mapping isn't exactly using the computer for studying reasons... I think that is the point your parents are trying to make . Usually the info you are studying for comes straight from the textbooks of that class, i don't think they (the teacher) wants you to scower the internet for the best and most descriptive answer... that's more work for them.

The only thing you would need a computer for would be to type up reports that are required to be typed, and possibley the info within them needs to be discovered on the internet.. but im sure parents will have strict exceptions.
yes cheetohs, i was skipping a lil bit of homework to map ( it was stupid, i know... never again! Really? Why are you laughing?)

Ok every1 i wansnt exactly too clear when i said why.. i got.hmm interims so bad its not even funny (for me anyway)
i got 2 C's and a D... i get a D, im doomed.. i get a C and im just yelled at.. i had promised my parents id get honro roll or they could take my PC privilege away until my grades improve (the interims 4 1/2 weeks from now)....

But ive got some REALLY GOOD NEWS! WAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAH
My teacher of the class which i had a D to a C (language arts, had a d 4 weeks ago... HEY QUIT LAUGHING AGAIN!)
Well the teacher messed up on her grading program, originally i had a C, which I wouldve gotten execept for an error she fixed, and when she fixed it! I GOT A B! yeah! SOOOOOooooo....
I GET TO KEEP MY COMPUTER!!!!! YAYYYY!
8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)
So lets all take a moment of silence to thank errors in computers! Yay!

muhaha, that's prob the best evidence what relying on computers can cause. Without knowing what it does "behind the screen", you will believe in whatever ur computer outputs, even if it was based on your typos :P

if you're a parent, yes i suppose it would.
but i believe (and have proven with a test subject of myself) that computer time or game time has NOTHING whatsoever to do with grades. people say it affects your brain. so does real life, no one has boycotted that yet.
i'm on my computer studying, modding, learning all sorts of game concept/dev tech stuff, forumming, playing games, all that, and strangely enough, i do fine in school. true, Grammar lacks, but my spelling (when i want it to), vocab, logical reasoning, and (not so much) math are all top grades. my reading level is that of a 2nd-year college student (that was when i was 11, haven't taken the test in 4 years), etc.
maybe i'm special  :P
Ok, Do you think new computer users should learn DOS?
no, i still use command prompt style in Windows, but new users should do Windows (easy XP style, keep everything locked so they dont mess themselves up, as noobs tend to do.), DOS is for more advanced users who know about what file management is like and such.

i own my computer and bought all it's parts, so the most they can do is deny my the "privelege" (spelling :x ) of using it, but they cant take my power cord or my keyboard, mouse, or anything else; because by law, that's theft.
but i really dont have to worry about grades, it's if i get mad at my mom, THAT would set off "NO COMPUTER FOR A WEEK" things. but usually it wont come to that.

Sticking with a 'school-related' topic.... i am curious.... It's not bragging or anything but In my biology class i have yet to actually study for a basically-weekly test... and yet i get Bs and As on the test. I hate Biology and i Don't pay attention in the class... at all. I prefer making shadow puppets on the overhead projecter rather than write down the notes.. anyhoo, is this saying that my teacher is bad with teaching biology (this is her 2nd year teaching, fresh from college the year before.... I hate those kind of "teachers").

Erm, about the same teacher... its not just me that behaves like this in her class, its... well.. the entire class... but yet we still receive higher grades than the other classes... So one day she gets mad at us and ALMOST starts crying (shes a real softy) because we took a key from her keychain of which she leaves on the middle of the desk in the front of the room.... who can't resist?! ... well we took a key and hung it up on the ceiling right in front of the class and she didnt see the shiny thing staring her right in the eye.... yes, it is a cruel thing to do.. but none of us like her.

well, if you have followed me so far through the rambling, the next day she gets in a pissy fit and lectures us on how we dont behave or respect in her class.... than shortly after, she puts the notes on the overhead and me and a couple others at this time usually get up close so we can SEE the notes (bad eyes), but no... In her attempts to show authority she refuses to let us get closer, we tell her that we wont write notes than cuz we cant SEE... she retialites with 'GET GLASSES' in a little-kid them-are-fighting-words manner.... when 2 of the 3 kids she said it to had glasses on.

Hell, here are some 'assignments' we did to 'learn' biology...
- Disected a PICKLE.
- Colored Diagrams of cells.... just Colored.
- Did SPONGEBOB themed assignments. practically 1st grade stuff

Than she will give us a 3-page packet of worksheets due at the end of the hour. She doesn't take into consideration the reading abilities and/or disabilities some people have and the impossibilites that is. Ikarumba....

To top it all off, she says that if we aren't sitting down by the time of the starting bell ring that she will fail us on everything and anything we do that day.... Well, to me, that sounds like an invitation to screw around in her class.

Ugh, i don't know what im getting at with this.. but this is the worst teacher i have ever had. The only thing that is carrying us through the class is memory from past years.

Those kinds of teachers annoy me... if she cant handle [insert cheetohs' grade level here]th grade students, go to knidergarten.. sheez.....
And she may need to get glasses
when 2 of the 3 kids she said it to had glasses on.
One of my 'most hated teachers' last year gave some1 detention for yawning :?:
If ya cant handle the big kids, go play with first graders....

my worst teacher was one that popped huge worksheets in Science on us, he'd assign us to measure everything in the room, give us a ruler and say "tell me how high and wide that doorway is" so we'd each go take our turn at it, nobody ever got it right. he would alays say sarcastically "you dont just take the ruler, put your finger at the end, and put the ruler at the end of your finger" slap his head and make a retard face. he also assigned involved projects involving making detailed cell structures and a 3-page essay COMPLETE with project board with fully color pictures and write-ups of what you had to be studying, over a weekend. most of us had vacations over weekends, so we usually failed the class.

that was in 7th grade.

but, homeschooling is the way to go :D

Ya... well elgan, it isn't necessarily good news if half the class is failing.. Heck... one of the harder tests 4/5th of my grade (10th grade btw) failed the test. No retakes. That's obviously leaving a message, wouldnt you think?

Now today, we have this big 'lab' assignment on disecting a mollusk tomorrow (who cares)... but anyhoo, its mega points i guess and 2/3rd the class is going to be gone because of scheduled SCHOOL events (sports, etc..). But she doesnt care... we have to make it up on our OWN time.... yes miss.teacher i have a dead mollusk and disecting tools as well as the worksheet lying around my house SOMEWHERE.... let me go find it quick!

Seriously.. she basically said dont come in after school or activity period (20 minutes inbetween first and second our) because not enough time.

Also, again, today she made the glasses comment at the same kids... what a jerk :P.

You sound like my grandpa.

anyway,I agree with Axion that you should learn the hard way first. It's Like training. If you want to join the 101st they don't just strap a parachute to you and throw you out the plane. you go through weeks and weeks of hard training till you perfect. If you can't do basic math in your head what happens when you need it and there's no caculator.
that was close Fungus
