Yes, you probably must. But you are a special case mate. :)

But I'd say there is a grain of truth in this dabate. Even if the angles are often very populistic. Most game developers can comfortably hide behind the "they were crazy before thay played it" statement, quickly brushing off any responcibility.

But there IS reason for a developer to stop and ask the question "is this too much?".

Example:
To make a game that is designed to make people kill other people in a really sick way, may be evil.
...or....
To make a game that is designed to allow people to kill other people in a really sick way, may be morally educating.
There is a difference here, and a game developer at some point choses to one way or another. Or inbetween, or whatever.

Human beeings reasoning will probably always be better than laws. Too bad human reasoning is often clouded.

Well, I generally think that a game that teaches people how to become a criminal is evil. And that's what the GTA series is.

He's Scottish. Wink
You will pay for that :P

ON a serious note, I have major problems with people that compare GTA to a "murder simulator".

How on earth can clicking a mouse button or pressing a button teach anyone how to load, then fire a gun ???

Does it desensitize young kids to violence - i think the answer is yes - but thats the reason for the 18 rating. THere is a reason we have a ratings system - just like voilent movies.

A large area of the problem is the parents. I used to work in EB. Kids would just put a game into their parents hands, whine a bit, and the parents would buy it for them without looking at it. Even after being told its a violent game.......

Yeah, the problem is that these ratings are just ignored...

And it does teach you how to become a criminal. It doesn't teach you how to fire and reload a gun, but the behaviour in general. You know - go out on the street, steal some car, run people over, or try to become a member of a gang... That's what I'm talking about.

<EDIT>Just noticed Bjarne's post... LMAO! :D</EDIT>

LOL... or he cuold de1337 (i had to do it) some old posts of his :P

Yes.. My parents dont let me buy a video game unless they know the rating. If its M they let me play it if what its rated m for isnt (gore, sex, really strong language)
that bad... They check it out...

In the Opinion section a couple of months ago thee was this kid who wanted GTA for a long time so his parent went and bought GTA:SA for his 8 year old son! Only after the store clerk told him what was in it did the parent tell his son to pick another game... His kid had been asking for GTA:SA and the parent didnt even bother to ask anyone or go online and resarch it... what an IDIOT

It actually teachs you about actions and responsibilities - you steal a car, you get in trouble with the police. In the UK kids have been joyriding for years now - long before these kind of games were available.....
