good to see with a little persistance you get results

normally when im trying something new in scripting ill just make a map that is a skybox with a ground texture ill then add the script objects etc. compile and test if it works ill then open the .map back up in radiant and select the items you need e.g. a c47 and its spline paths then go to open my map and click yes on copy selection then copy the script in this saves compile time when testing.

1. for the c47 i would recommend this tutorial it worked for me

http://users.1st.net/kimberly/Tutorial/plane.htm

2. to add fog simply add these lines at the beggining of the script

Code: Select all

$world farplane 5000 //where 5000 is the density
$world farplane_color (.333 .333 .329) //color of the fog this is a grey it is RGB
3. Check the AI tutorials here on .map there is one specifically for patrolling

4.this is a guide on how to respawn ai which helped me when i first started thanks to bdbodger

https://map.moh-central.net/forum/viewtopi ... respawning

5.have a look at the AI Tutorial for spearhead i believe this covers how to create and update objectives and i think it is the same for allied assault

Good luck! :D

Thanks fo the tips!
Have tested the fog script and it worked fine.

But now I have more problems.

I splited the map into two parts, 1A and 1B.
I can compile and play level 1B but not 1A because this happens:

what is the cause of this?

thats vis it is how moh calculates what the player can and cant see so if the player cant see it it wont render it. this is done to reduce the FPS the more architecture the longer vis compile will take some maps can take over 5 hours to do dependant n your computer spec. you can compile without vis but the fps could drop considerably.

to compile without vis you will need to make a .bat files to do this open up notepad

copy the following

Code: Select all

cd "c:\program files\mohaatools\"
q3map -gamedir "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\MOHAA\main" -blocksize 0 "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\MOHAA\main\maps\test_b2.map"
pause
then goto file save as "yourname.bat"

where test_b2.map is your map name
also check that the directories are correct
this creates the BSP only i do this for tesing purposes so that i can quickly check if my map is working then for a final compile i will run with vis

also if you want to add light add this line to your .bat file just under the q3map line again changing test_b2 to your map name

Code: Select all

mohlight -gamedir "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\MOHAA\main" "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\MOHAA\main\maps\test_b2.map"
once this is done save it again and goto your bat file double click and it will run light can also take a while on larger maps but when you release this publicly do a full compile

hope this helps!

Maybe you should use a utility like MBuilder to do the compile . You can set options easier like the fast option for vis and light . In the batchfile area of MBuilder you can select and remove stages if you want like the vis and light stages . Once setup I think it would be faster than reediting a batch file over and over again for different maps .

My tiny brain has been thinking.
It figured out that I will never complete this mod alone.
So I'm thinking of starting a modding team and putting up an ad on the
Help wanted/offered palce.
