Is this an outside map? they are really hard to VIS unless you designed them with this in mind from scratch...

actually yes it is mostly outside. it has a house in it, but most of the area is blocked by nature. the underground is built of patch meshes for the walls and the ceiling and floor is made up of lod terrain. guess there is not much i can do then?

if you can find areas where you don't see other areas of the map, you can allways use manual vis.

Bjarne has a tut on that as well, so I wont go into how..

You say the underground part of the map is made up of lod and meshes, did you enclose these inside a caulked box ?

Meshes dont block the view I am sure lod does not either , if you enclose them with caulked walls and say maybe a door at each end you could use area portals to seal that part off.

roger: i tried the manvis and it just didn't seem to give me the desired effect or really any benefit of the amount of work i did.

ruby: no, it is not enclosed within a cualked box, but it is within a skybox. i just constructed a long tunnel with patch meshes and used lod for the ceiling and floor. guess i could look at sealing them with a door and using a caulked box around the tunnel.
thanks.

use the r_showtris 2 command to determine the effects of manual VIS
