Whether u get suck into the game is not depending on 2D or 3D, it's still the game itself. Go to school and, even in full 3D, dolby surround 6.1 or whatever, it's dead boring. And then, read a good book and u'll forget anything else - without ANY kind of 'view' or sound
well, who wold run glasses with a game like that?
im talking about games like mohaa and freelancer (if u have seen it) and things like these .it would add alot of fun to it .
but i cant imagine it because i never saw them .maybe my point of view will be like urs when i do c them .maybe not

OK, its "digging up an old thread day" :)

I got to try the E-D Glasses today as my school ( http://www.gamemaker.nu/ ) just bought 2 pairs.

It works, and it is a really lively effect. Your monitor gets depth when rendering 3D in fullscreen.

So yes, it works and it is no hoax :D

It works by making the GFX card render from 2 alternating viewpoints in the 3D space, and then the glasses alternetly blacks out one of your eyes with the glasses.

But now comes the downsides:
- As it renders 2 images to create one image in your brain, the percieved FPS is in effect half of what you will see. And in addition about 15% FPS decrease is introduced to aminister the specialized rendering. So if you have a 100fps game, it will run at just above 40fps with these galasses.
- This FPS impact is totally OK for games where you dont make sudden fast camera movements. Racing games and air simulators work very nice.
- This FPS impact is totally NOT OK for games where you do make sudden fast camera movements. First person shooters like MOHAA is an example of this. It looks really nice and 3D, but as soon as you do a fast mouse movement: your brain starts to scream in pain. Still looks 3D and very cool, but it just isent an enjoyable experience any more.
- The "flat" controls in the game will appear to float on top of everything. This is OK and even a good thing for stuff like a compass, but it can be very confusing when it comes to the crosshair. As everything is now in full amazing 3D: it will be painfully obvious that the sight is rendered behing the actual gun :). The aim will still be true, but if feels a bit strange. On the other hand: games with crosshairs that is really rendered on the target ( like the red laser dot from the HL2 rocket launcher ) will REALLY be rendered on the target :).

In conclusion: If you have loots of money and lover racing games, or want your sims to be even more alive: go ahead and buy one.
But if you are even thinking of using it for FPS games: forget it.

( but if you just want to impress your friends: buy it, because it is a great "look what I've got"-gadget :) ).

Note: It only works in fullscreen mode. So if you want to do modeling in Maya/Max/Blender and so on, its a no-go.

This is disappointing but was most likely to be. Exactly as I experienced those glasses now 4 years ago.
For modelling, it might work if u used 2 monitors putting the 3dview in fullscreen on ur 2nd monitor, but then, for a decent framerate above 75, u'd need 160 and this at a resolution of atleast 1024x768 :? Would ur monitor do this?!
These glasses were, are and probably will be for a long time... crap

Forget the 3D glasses. Call me when you have found some X-Ray specs.

No, they are not crap at all. If that is the feeling you get from my post, then it came out all wrong.

The 3D effect from this system is amazing, but only for ceirtain types of games. But if you only play FPS games and nothing else: well, yes, I guess they are crap, but for other types of games: they are very cool.

8-) No, this was just my opinion... Maybe my words were a bit harsh. There might be applications and games where they could make sense. And they surely are a great gadget to impress ur friends with
But: Because up to date games tend to ask for more performance than the recently bought PC can offer, a framerate reduced to 40% makes many of them rather unplayable.
Then, as far as I remember, wearing them was very straining and uncomfortable, trying to combine them with real glasses was almost impossible without duct tape :P .
So, I still think u won't have much fun with them in whatever game u might want to use them.
But this of course is just my opinion! I surely don't want to offend u or anybody else! One could still try to get them, try to wear them (and try to get rid of them at eBay  )

I made a 3D film recently, well it was meant to be 3D but it turned out pretty crap, it was for a reality tv show that started last night. We wanted it to be something like a 50's b movie, its not so bad just not very 3d, theres a 2d version too:

As I was poking around in the settings of the 3D glasses, I found that you can configure it to work with those oldschool blue/red glasses. So anyone could just download the 3D drivers from eDimensional an get a pair of those "old shool" glasses and basically get the effect for free :)

You will lose the color of the image ( i think ) but the 3D effect will be the same :D

Yes. anything that exploits vision will mes up your brain's interpreters.

think of it like a comuter with no comp clock, it'll regulate, but if you send too much in at one time, it overheats.

Well can I tell you guys a secret? The technology in the future will not be in the glasses in fact they discovered a new technology that makes it possible to see 3d with just your bare eyes. In the near future (1 to 3 years) there will be LCD screens on the market with specially designed videocards (I know that NVIDIA Geforce for one has one) that renders your screen from the left side and the right side meaning with just your bare eyes it will get projected in front of your eyes without the use of glasses.

Ehh... can you show us the source if this info?

Sounds impossible to me ( at least the way you describe it )... To create "real" 3D you must make each eye see a different image... how do you make that happen on a flat surface ( a monitor ) without extra equipment?

I stand corrected: http://nvidia.com/object/3d_stereo.html ( Under the 3D Stereo Monitors section )
