Cool, I got the showtris working. So am I correct in thinking that using the showtris I can view everything that is being drawn from any location, if there were say brushes being drawn the other side of a closed door I would be able to see them using showtris ?

ok, now what??? trying to compile and I'm frozen at the .prt writing for like an hour already. That's never happened before. I have no skybox leaks. Someone tell me why??????

Since you don't have a leak, your compiler is finally calculating something 8)

Yeah, that's what I thought too, but I've tried it doing a full compile and a fast compile. When I do a full compile, it's like I said, it freezes at the "writing .prt" spot. If I do a fast compile (which doesn't write a .prt file correct?) it freezes right after all my "fence masks" and "static model not found" error messages. The only thing I did sicne the last time I compiled was set up an exploder objective so I'm wondering if this would create the problem??

The bsp compiler will always create a .prt file unless your map has a leak.

Note that you should not compile with -fulldetail!

na, I'm not compiling with -full detail. I've read on another forum where I may have a conflict due to a lot of .map files in my dm folder with similar names, I have a number of backup maps in there. I also read another thread that you jv_map commented on about a number of brushes not snapping to the grid. (link here:

Like I said, I would do fast compiles for testing by dropping my skybox floor and it would always compile in like 30 minutes. Now, since I've added my exploder brushes and entities, it won't finish. I guess I'll delete that section to see if that's the problem unless you think of something else. Thx for all your responses jv_map, no one on this site is as responsive as you.

Well I have an idea but I'm not sure if it's going to give us anymore insight.

Here's my idea:

compile with bsp: -v -blocksize 0 >> "c:\temp\dump.txt"

Stop the compile when it's writing the prt file. Afterwards post the contents of the file dump.txt in c:\temp right here 8)

Are you sure it stops during the make of the .prt file?? Have you checked if you got a prt file in the folder (where your maps are). Don't misstake the creation of the prt for the actuall VIS process. VIS process can take a really long time depending on your VIS data size and planing of the map. This could be the case if you never done a full compile before. Some people have to wait several days before it's completed. (but if it takes that long time then it's probably not effective vis in the map).
