This is my 3rd pc I have built in 3 months, cause I keep wanting to try different setups and configurations.
hmm!!!
3rd in 3 months ,is this your money ur spending?
and what happens to the others .if u dont like them ,feel free to send them here  :P .
but found the ATI 9800xt on ebay for $370.00, and it has the coupon for the free copy of half life 2. That's the only reason I went with that card.
cant blame u ,i would do the same .infact ,i was intending to buy that card but i found it was ridicilously expensive .i could have bought a kick ass pc for its money with a shitty card
3.4 ghz /1 gig ram / 120hdd /any cheap 128 card = Radeon 9800 xt =geforce fx 5950

i think there is something wrong in the markets ,i hope they are fixed when i have the money to buy a card .now im planning to get the geforce fx 5900 ultra as it is almost more than half the price (this is what i heard roughly ,havent checked the price yet)

bringng bakc an old topic.......

ATI oficially owns nvidea now, hands down. with the new x800 and nvidias card (help me out on the names guys) nvidia got BLWON AWAY. first off nvdias giant crap fan makes it require 2 slots, it takes more power, and third it got owned in fps by the ati in everthing except cod (won by 5 fps if u forgot) so anyway im a ATI fan now w00t.
PRICES:
ATI x800 PRO: 399.99
ATI x800 PLATINUM: 499.99
GeForce: N/A at this time

well,i dont agree .if u looked carefully the geforce 6800 (the new one) is far better in a few other things .it seems that the drivers we currently have are not so good at direct3d games and applications ,hence the low fps in comparison with the radeon x800 .but in opengl games (like cod) the geforce 6800 has shown its true power !!!!!
the only draw back to the geforce is the 2 molex connectors and the noise of the big fan .the geforce is rumored to be at the same price also .

and remember ,geforce 6800 is a new chip that supports pixel shaders 3.0 .while the radeon x800 works on an improved version of the last chip with pixel shaders 2.0 .for me ,it sounds like the squeezed out all the juice from that chip on this card (x800) while nvidia's card still has alot of potential .
i think u should wait a little until maybe a geforce 6900 (an improved version) comes out or something ,since the 5800 is crap compared with the 5900 or 5950

hmm, im still gonna side with ATI on this one. the fact taht it takes up twice the slots and that loud fan and power waste, im still goin with ATI. its true, it seems GeForce shows more power in OpenGL game, but its too little of a difference for me becasue ATI overwhelms GeForce in the other non-opengl games. I may wait for a new GeForce to come out though, i havent decided.

well,i agree .ati's offer is much more attractive than nvidia's usually ati cards are generally also cheaper .ati is consiming nvidia's share in the markets and nvidia isnt doing enough to stop them :?
but until the cards are out ,this is just speculation .
ati is so secretive about it ,if they would just release more info on the card,we will be able to judge more accurately

I am kinda happy that ATI can at least compete with nvidia, cause there for a while nvidia had the market cornered, and was on the verge of a monopoly. That would suck bad, cuase then they could charge any price they want. Also another way to look at it is that with ATI competing in the performance part of the cards, that also benefits us as gamers, cuase it's a competition between them to see who can build the best performer. I just hope they both keep up the good work.

well, now there is this new company XGI which is planning to enter the vga card race !!! imagine 3 companies competing instead of 2 .if u looked at its card in tomeshardware ,it seemed to perform quite well for a prototype with not so well developed drivers !!!
nvidia releases a killer card ,then ati releases a card thats much more faster ,then xgi beats them with a new line .so nvidia releases a better .... etc 8-)

dont think thats the case ,the competition is so fast .that the companies are releasing the cards out ery quickly without looking into cheaper alternatives !!!!
try comparing the prices of older cards with newer cards and see the huge difference !!!! i just hope the prices dont increase so quickly
