Heh I think most of my mapping is more realistic than fun :(. I see maps as more fun to just be in... I guess it comes from not actually playing much :D.

Prefab

The contest was to build the best bridge "PREFAB" and, from what I see, You guys didn't even look at the prefabs.

Is the prefab centered?
Will the prefab fit well in any river/canal map?
Is the prefab easy to customize and use?
Does the prefab scale work for Moh vehicles?
etc...

If I'd of known Bjarne BZR's girlfriend was a judge, I would of put in more bunny rabbits.

Well I don't think the prefab was at top priority of the judges. I think the prefab competition sorta floated into mapping only... We were judging more onto the actually design...

OK Here are all of the scores...

Code: Select all

Blue60007 scores:

Echo_rancid:

Map name: Broken Rotary Bridge

Overall score: 86%

Comments: Nice ambient lighting, but could use point lights, or small amount of sun. You had small overlaps on the base of the shacks. I liked the loading screen. A very nice and original map :)

Tltrude:

Map name: Pontoon bridge

Overall score: 89%

Comments: I thought it was a shade to bright, but I loved the shadows on the water!! Maybe could have used a small shack or building for eye candy... I liked the ripple effects and explosions. Overall a very nice map :)

MadMapper:

Map name: Bridge

Overall score: 75%

Comments: Could have put a bar or something where the beams meet the bridge. Also I fell off onto the skybox  This was a small and simple bridge but VERY effective :)

Bjarne BZR scores:

Pontoon bridge - tltrude
------------------------
Texturing - 8/15 (Nothing to comment)
Architecture - 12/20 (Looks realistic)
Audio - bonus - 4/5 (Nice triggered creaking)
Performance - 12/15 (A single flat brush would be faster)
Fun - 8/10 (You can hide in every boat)
Theme - 10/10 (Thinking out of the box)
Creativity - 9/10 (Never seen it before)
Scripting - bonus - 3/5 (Nice, but could be nicer)
Custom - bonus - 0/5 (No custom textures)

66/95 - 69%
Comment: This bridge shows a very nice ability to not do the obvious. This is not at all what you expect to get when you tell someone: build a bridge.

Broken rotary bidge - echo_rancid
---------------------------------
Texturing - 8/15 (Nothing to comment)
Architecture - 14/20 (A cool bridge)
Audio - bonus - 1/5 (Tried, but it does not work)
Performance - 7/15 (Those horisontal beams should have been a fence texture instead)
Fun - 10/10 (The that it rotates gets you totally stressed out)
Theme - 8/10 (A bit strange, but cool)
Creativity - 9/10 (Never seen it before)
Scripting - bonus - 2/5 (Eh... it... moves :) )
Custom - bonus - -1/5 (Missing texture(SH i presume))

58/95 = 61%
Comment: This is the bridge my girfriend like the most, so one of the few girls that will ever see this bridge declares it best in show ;). The best thing about it is not the bridge in tiself, but instead the feeling of total paranoia you get when running out onto it... will you make it across? Where will you end up?

Hurried bridge - MadMapper
--------------------------
Texturing - 4/15 (Bad texturing at the beams)
Architecture - 5/20 (A realistic bridge, thats it)
Audio - bonus - 0/5 (No audio)
Performance - 14/15 (Should have blasting FPS)
Fun - 3/10 (Not really a combat designed bridge)
Theme - 9/10 (It really looks loke its designed to work... like a bridge)
Creativity - 1/10 (Its functional, but not a pice of art - like a bridge)
Scripting - bonus - 0/5 (no moving parts)
Custom - bonus - 0/5 (no custom textures)

36/95 = 38%
Comment: This bridge is just that: a bridge. If the contest were about creating the archetype of a bridge (See the writings of C.G. Jung) it would have won by far. But in a contest where creativity and gameplay is a part of the judging, it simply can't compete. But if I owned an expensive car and had to select one of these bridges: this is the one ;)

lizardkid scores:

T|Trude
83%

Echo-Rancid
87%

Madmapper
81%

NOTE: Yarik's scores are unavaible at this time...

SO here are the rankings:

3. MadMapper - 64%

2. echo_rancid - 69%

Drum roll............

1. tltrude - 80%

Darn, not that I would have won, but I just seen this thread. In my collection of prefabs (about 100 or so), I have a near exact replica of the Bridge Over River Kwai, and I have a suspension bridge that I built. Never used either, just wanted to see if I could build em. The river kwai bridge is modeled from dozens of pictures I found online from both the movie and from actual shots taken both today and back before the bridge was bombed. The suspension bridge was just something I built out of the blue, nothing to go by. But oh well, I will pay more attention to this thread now. :)
