hello, i'm new to mapping a have a few questions/problems

1. How can you make ambiant light...i just want equal light all around the map (a daytime map)

2. when compiling, it (the mbuilder program) can't "find" half of the textures, so half my map looks black or gray

Hi,
1) just use the search button and search for 'ambientlight', here is one example of an existing thread on this matter:
/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8488&highlight=ambientlight
2)-make sure you have set the basepaths right in both mohradiant and mbuilder
-make sure you remove all custom pk3's from the Main-dir before starting mohradiant

uhm, you should only use ambient light (for full map lighting) if you dont have a skybox. If you ahve a skybox, you should type (with a worldspwn brush selected)key: suncolor value: 70 70 70 (70 70 70 is good for a full day one ) waith suncolor you still need a little ambient, so if you want amient youd type key: ambientlight value: 10 10 10 (10 10 10 is good for starters... maybe less...

DANGIT! ya beat me! :P

ummm, ok, i think i got the light thing working (i think), but i can't fix problem 2

when i try to compile the map, in the dos thingy that mbuilder brings up it says

C:\PROGRA~1\EAGAME~1\MOHAA\main\maps>"C:\PROGRA~1\MOHAAT~1\Q3map.exe" -gamedir
C:\PROGRA~1\EAGAME~1\MOHAA C:\PROGRA~1\EAGAME~1\MOHAA\main\maps\box2.map
---- q3map ----
----- FS_Startup -----
----------------------
33203 files in pk3 files

************ ERROR ************
MatchToken( "{" ) failed at line 62 in file scripts/sunflare.shader

C:\PROGRA~1\EAGAME~1\MOHAA\main\maps>pause
Press any key to continue . . .

the map will compile, but ground is black, and the walls have the wrong texture (i'm just trying to make a box)

It looks like there is indeed a pk3 in your main-dir that has a wrong line in one of its shaders. If there is only one bad shader loaded it can mess up the way mohaa loads the rest of the textures.
Like I said make sure you (temporarily) remove all custom pk3's from the main-dir before starting mohradiant. So if you haven't done it yet try that first and see if that solves the compiling error.

arg, now when i try to compile it with mbuilder there's an error...it can't find the .bsp

o, and btw, i have a clean install of Moh, it can't find the .bsp because it does'nt exist (why is this, what's the problem)...clarify something for me, where EXACTLY are all three (game directory, compiler directory, Map source directory) supposed to be set to?

So you have not added any pk3's to ur main folder.
Ok, it sounds like for one maybe one of ur paths is incorrect.
Either in Radiant or in Mbuilder, go here and verify ur paths.
http://users.1st.net/kimberly/Tutorial/tut.htm

*note* bookmark that site and do all the tuts, u'll be glad u did.

Do you have Spearhead installed?

Mbuilder creates the bsp file in one stage and if the other stages don't see it u'll get the error you saw.

Go to SEARCH and type in "matchtoken"

Its somewhat a common prob with people just starting and this is usually the prob,

Quote from Bajarne
The first error ( MatchToken( "{" ) failed at line 710 in file scripts/allied_dutchteam.shader ) breakes the creation of a BSP file in the first stage. And because of this, all subsequent compile steps will also fail. The error looks as if it is caused by a bad script named "scripts/allied_dutchteam.shader".

A good step is to remove ALL non standard PK3 files ( actually all non standard files of all types, but most mods and maps come in PK3:s ) and do the compiles from a clean MOH:AA install.
I don't think it likes ur sky shader, try a different sky, like mohday1 sky or what ever it is.

Does for me!

Did u include the parenceseseseseseses "matchtoken"

this is what u will find.
ERROR: MatchToken Error ({) failed at line xxx of xxx

You have an invalid .shader file in the scripts folder. If you haven't written a shader yourself, this is most likely caused by a custom shader. Otherwise, check your shader at the given line number. Make sure the number of {s equals the number of }s.

SOLUTION: Remove custom pk3s. If this doesn't help, check the shader that produced the error.
It works both ways "matchtoken" or matchtoken.
Be sure to use the search box under Search Query and the first line "search for keywords".

First clarify something for us then yodaman. Do you or do you not have any custom pk3's in your main-folder? Yes or no?
According to that mbuilder-logfile you posted your paths seem correct. But your map does not compile because there's something wrong with a shader file, thus no bsp is created.
