DDS Textures

I recently downloaded the pluggins that let me view and create these files. From what I've been reading here, these textures are used when the player selects Texture Compression in his video settings.

Do I have to make .jpg copies of the DDS textures as well for people who don't select that switch? Or will they just use a lower quality mip map out of the file?

I want to keep my pk3 file size down.

Well, I just answered my own question. I used 1024 res, DDS sky texture with no jpg counterparts. With texture compression on, everything was fine. When I turned it off -- no sky. So I added jpg versions to my folder and Viola!

I really want to use some high quality textures in this map so that people with top notch systems will enjoy it too. So I'll probably use 100% custom textures. Maybe I'll release the map with Jpegs, and have an additional DDS texture pak to download for people using those images. It depends on how big the pk3 file gets with all the textures included.
