I'm testing a map for someone and in some parts of his map there's a strange bug:
When I fire my gun the muzzle flash wont dissapear and keeps on flashing etc.

The strange thing is, it only happends in some parts of the map. Any suggestions?

Wow that's kinda fancy

does that happen maybe when looking at the snow texture? Or does it always happen at a certain spot no matter what way you look?

Does it only happen to you, or can everyone see it? It might be a skybox or worldspawn problem. It could also be a problem with the light compile.
We would need to see the .map file, or a test .map file with a bad spot.

i had the same problem once, and i messed around a bit cause i thought it was the sky not being right, then i thought it was a lighting prob, but eventually i had to start over

It happends at a few specific spots, its not my map. Like I said I'm testing it, the guy that made it put a beta on the net.
Check

Hi, I'm the designer.
It's a real strange thing this bug
All my spawns are okey, worldspawn codes also.
I really have no idea what it could be. I'm checking my codes now.
Please help me with this!!

Oh, come on, guys. This just cannot have anything to do with the light compile. I think it's a bug in the particle system, as muzzle flashes are just sprites and they're handled by the client.

I once made a room that made people (and grenades) inside dissapear. I've made rooms that do some reaaalllly wierd things...
Its highly probable that its something to do with the actual BSP... Try CTRL + Ging some things in your map - sounds useless, but it may just be the key.

That's fairly easy to do. Just make a room covered with the skybox texture from the outside - no one will be able to see players/projectiles inside.

This could be a fault of the VIS compile if the bug had to do with models and stuff, but since it's just client particle (effects) system, I highly doubt it.

Thats easy; if deliberate. The scary, and weird thing about this room is; You could be in it at the same time as someone else and not see them, not see bullet FX or decals, or nades; nothing. The floor dissapeared to reveal the room below and the sides dissapeared occasionally. And it Definately wasn't deliberate. What I'm trying to say is; Compile can have weird effects on the level, and people in it.

if it were a particle error, Rookie, it would happen throughout the map and only one person would have it. highly unlikely that a BSP would cause a particle error. it's definitely the map. Vis would be the only thing that could affect such a thing, but wtf?
does it always happen in one spot? say beside that building? if it does, select everything in there and check for hidden stuff, you never know.

Right, but what's the connection between the BSP and particle system?

Whats the connection between the BSP and the game? What is the connection with the maps occasionally F***ing up and doing wierd things; No one knows, but thats the way to fix it. If you can come up with an alternate solution; go ahead, Ctrl + Ging does sound stupid; but it fixed weird things for me, soooo

It seems to be solved now... strange ... I have no clue what caused this. Could it be a script or so from other custom maps?
