I didn't think it possible but I'm being sued for a internet post

To make a long story short I performed a large job that took 10 months and didn't get paid. I put a lien on the job and it was a big mess. 2 years later I posted what happened and who burned me on a site and Im being sued now!

What a world :P

Hog, what exactly they suing you for, defamatory remarks, libel ?

if you can prove that your statement was absolutely true, then surely even without the counter action against them you can plead that you stated FACTS about your association with the swindlers and that your comments were in context and didnt elaborate or deceive anyone.

I would imagine (though im totally making this up as I go along) that if your accusations were backed up with facts then how can they sue you for just stating your account of your relationship?

I know that everyone is out to sue everyone in the USA, here in UK its not such a common thing to sue, we rather sort it out between ourselves, well at least where im from they do.

If you lose the case, give up work and tell them you can only give them $2 a week :)

its such a cruel world :(

Did you sign some sort of confidentiality agreement? If not then I think what Jack Ruby is getting at is completely true. Good luck anyway.

People have misconceptions about lawyers: it's the people that are stupid. the lawyers do their job by helping protect teh (not often) innocent and (more often) guilty.

People under the age of 18 can not be sued. Also, they must prove that it was you that wrote the post, and that it was not altered by the site admin or hackers. They must also prove that it harmed their business, or their reputation.

Granted my comment was a steriotypical comment, but never-the-less, lawyers look out for there clients welfare, whether it is right or wrong. And like you said most times it's wrong. That is were I get my base for comment.

Well, Im over 18 and I didn't try to hide who I was on my post.
The guy who ripped me off had a client that stumbled upon that post I did and he say's the client dropped him because of the post! Which is BS but he said he could prove it.
I could fight it but it would cost another 4,000 dollars....#@*# lawyers.
Plus no gareentee that i would win resulting in another 3 or 4 thousand dollars to pay his lawyer fee's.

Lizards right, its not really the lawyers, its stupied people.
And the system allowing frivalouse law suits.

Who cares if he can prove it, if you told the truth, than there is nothing illegal about what you did. Besides, if he lost a client because of your truthfull comments, than you should pat yourself on the back.

Some of my comments are impossible to prove. Like "money is his god".
But yes I do feel good about his potential client knowing the "real guy"!

My lawyer has cost me 2,000 so far!
The web site is Rip-off reports. I contacted them and they refused to remove the post. Now the judge is forcing them to remove it.
We'll see....
