A lighting problem

My small room is pitch black. I know I've put lights in the room, but they aren't showing. I have to shoot my gun in order to see the walls and floors and ceiling. >_< Help please?
make sure the lights are in the room and not outside the walls or anything, and that you have the light value set still. otherwise put
ambientlight/70 70 70
in worldspawn.
