Realism?

Who plays realism?
by a mod realism i mean a clans custom realism or CKR or something else like that..
i personally play pure classic MOHAA, no ladder mod even. sometimes when the server is down i go into a realism server (i try not to stay long) and get mad kills, just because it takes so many less bullets to kill people. BUT of course you need an mg since every other gun is underpowered in realism.

I only play normal, I never liked realism. Even without realism I just need a few bullets to kill someone.

realisms not about easy killing - its about easy dying!
i like to get real - i cant stand when everybodys hopping around like bunnys - fly swatten each other 100 times before they die.

I play rifles-only: One shot, one kill, no grenades, no leaning.

I did use shotguns for a week... hmmm two years ago when I began... but never was I silly enough to prefer realism!
And then I discovered the pure joy of the mauser, and as the song says, nothing would be the same again.

weapons and realism are two different things. different weapons evoke different gameplay. I have a random force weapons on some of my maps in rotation (i.e. allweapons dm2 / bolt dm4 / allweap dm7 / shotties dm6 / allweap dm3 / pistols dm1 / m1 dm2 / allweap dm4 / naderifle team2 etc.... )
Live a little and expand horizons in weapon experience.
a noob isnt a noob because he/she uses a particular weapon.... a noob is a noob who cant deal with thier own weapon choice against someone elses.
pick the weapon best for the job. thats what i say.. have fun with it.
and if its realism - play it smart.
if its not -- hop hop swat swat.

realism just ups damage for all guns, and ups weapon speed for anything automatic. that right there puts an intolerance on any weapon but mg. even smg has it's speed lowered. then they take off weight, so now you have a thousand mg'ers flying around a map shooting 30 bullets per 3 seconds (no joke) when those bullets are one-shot-anywhere kill bullets.
tell me if this is fair for a game. try telling me that.
a noob isnt a noob because he/she uses a particular weapon.... a noob is a noob who cant deal with thier own weapon choice against someone elses.
imo, most people who take shotties on maps like V2 cant use anything else. if they can obviously use different weapons hey i could care less, i just wish people who use shotty on every map they play would get a little more skill.

hmmm. a good realism is based on the statistical evaluation of each weapon. Hence "realism". Not the arbitrary uping of particular parameters.
On Fairness... Yea, its fair because you have the choice - If you go realism and say "I own everybody with my bolt rifle. Well.... Expect a real result. I do.... your gonna die most the time.
Not because it takes a noob to use an mg, but because it takes an experienced skillfull player to make the right weapon choice for the right situation.
Besides now that i think about it "nothings is fair in love and Realism".

I have yet to see a realism that is at all realistic... most people who decide to make a 'realism mod' only know enough to change the damage per bullet, and probably couldnt even tell you which numbers determine the spread, how that will matter in close v. long range, or that there are two spread patters =p
simply put realism in moh, from its roots was about making machine guns more powerfull. Ive seen ultra realism where you cant run... again stupid, if im only holding a pistol how bloody hard is it to sprint to cover? Its not 'tactical realism' its boring and lame - any mod gets called realism. WHy not label it, higher gun power, no running, while too long of a name at least it would be accurate and the people who join wont be annoyed. The most common answer ive heard when asking why a server runs realism is 'better then all shotguns isnt it?' This is why realism sprang up, and it was inevitable because shotgun was the overpowering weapon by far, AND every board was made in a way where shotguns could dominate in one way or another, a consequence of small levels.
An automatic weapon is hard to aim while firing at full auto, especialy when not fully braced and stationary. Almost no realism mods do the most basic things that would make heavy automatic weapons more 'realistic' such as slow down mg's and rockets run speed, and significantly increase the deviation when firing a weapon at full speed.
I dunno who made that 'training' map, but that thing kicks ass for modding weapons. When I wanted to make SP pistols more accurate and automatics a bit less accurate I used the shooting range on that map constantly, observing what my modifications had done to weapon spread at various distances... very very usefull.
Shotguns should be very powerfull up close, I mean thats what they are for, same with smg... both are not usefull as ranged weapons typicaly... but extremely good when your enemy is nearbye. So why would I have a problem with people using shotguns? The answer is obviously the environment in which you are playing. If 'The Opera House' was a stock map I played alot, then by all means enable shotguns. However, it is not, and there is not a single stock map that does not either consist of mostly tight areas, or have crucial tight areas that you must pass through. Therefore a campy style of play is much more profitable to all, dramaticaly slowing down play, which really isnt my thing. Oh yea, and a squad of guys 90% of whom are equipped with shotguns and/or smg's... thats not really realistic either now is it? =p How do they ever break cover? lol
On the plus side, realism and shotguns have significantly added to my overly puffed up ego =) When you kill a whole realism clan with a mauser(which they DIDNT modify) or kill 3 shotgun wielders with a masuer on v2... you really lose respect for the people who play the game that way. I found that using a MG on a realism server was pretty much like gauranteeting I would kill vast amounts of people, even while severly distracted.
Dont take offense realism lovers! There are good players who play only realism... but on average the 'realism guy' sprays hard and long, and hopes to hit something. They can get away with it because the weapons retain thier accuracy at full auto while having a 20% or more damage upgrade.
PS --- I would hate Realism a hell of a lot less, if the clans who modded thier weapon damage would bloody well say that in thier server titles, as that was the 'last straw' in my MOH experience, and led directly to me buying COD.
lol... see! dont get me started =( I guess the last sentence is the most important one, as realism really doesnt matter until you join 12 servers over the course of an hour all them with modded damage, and none of them advertising it. I truely hope no one here who has power over a server is guilty of such =p

i am guilty, there is just enough room there for my web site address - for custom maps DL! but i say it in my message banner.

I'm pretty much with splae here, but i also agree with you on one count Vipe.
hmmm. a good realism is based on the statistical evaluation of each weapon. Hence "realism". Not the arbitrary uping of particular parameters.
Of course, the MOHAA devs made it very realistic, they got the amount of bullets right, the timing of shots, how long it took a veteran soldier to bolt correctly, weight of these guns, but as for recoil they missed heavily.
I've been banned from two realism servers, both times i went Allies with an M1, and put simply, pwned them. Both Obj, both times they said i had no walls and an aimbot.

actualy the number of bullets is wrong too, but rarely does any game get that right.
when you carry 5 clips, and reload one halfway through it, you are not left with 4 and a half. (not in parctice anyway, technicaly you COULD hold onto a half or nearly exhausted clip, but who would want to grab that accidentaly in a firefight?)
