On the 1st of September 1939 German Wehrmacht forces invaded Poland, thus starting the Second World War.

Today, on the day of 66th anniversary, let us memorialize all the people who died in the War.

We shall never forget the ones who fought for our freedom.

Yes, and lets also honour the brave men and women who fought and died for the vision of a great united reich over all of europe.

The forces of both sides were based on the awsome power of the individuals that made up the armies. Both sides had heroes and cowards, but most of them were regular people. Some were 18 years old. Are you 18? Can you see yourself beeing called in? And not just to do military service... but to recieve few month of training and then be sent out to the ongoing war?

I can't.

I can't see myself doing that. War to me is a thing that happens elsewhere. Strange thought really, when you see wars beeing fought every other day om television... But its not really real on television... But in 1939 it became pretty fucking real to a lot of people. And to a lot of people it is still real today, in other places.

There is things to learn from history: and still it is also easily forgotten. Anyone heard of a genocide since WWII? No?

Think again

The Tianamen Square comes to mind. However that was a massacre of one type of people so i'm not sure if it counts.

All soldiers need to be honored. it takes a lot of guts to go out, in mortar shells an bullets, tank shells destroying your comrades, to raise that gun and commit a crime that would normally earn you a spot in the local hangmans's loop.
