You need to compile your .map file to .bsp. Mbuilder is a nice tool to do this.
Here is a tutorial,

You must have a map made first in radiant, after that you can save it as a .map (in radiant)

1. use radient to create a .map file (ie. build brushes, texturize the brushes, create skybox)
2. use mbuilder to convert/compile .map file to .bsp file
3. after mbuilder is finished you will/may have multiple files; you only need the file with the .bsp extention
4. place .bsp file in the following directory :
c:\program files\ea games\mohaa\main
5. run mohaa
6. create a lan server (click on board to far right)
7. opt for either free for all or team match
8. click the map button (upper left corner)
9. chose your map
10. click start

DM and FFA bsp's go in c:\program files\ea games\mohaa\main\maps\DM
OBJ bsp's go in c:\program files\ea games\mohaa\main\maps\OBJ
single player bsp's go in c:\program files\ea games\mohaa\main\maps

yeah, thanks bd, i subconsciously assumed he had allready made a .pk3 .
in the meantime s-turk; here is a very basic .map file and it's converted to .bsp file to pull apart and practice with.
ie. you can convert the enclosed .map file into a .bsp file
(the .bsp file is to see what map should end up like)

Okay it's obvious you're new at this so maybe a little more info on .map files and .bsp files will clear some things up.
Think of a .map file as your working area; it is an uncompressed file and stores all elements (brushes and entities) of your map in separate "layers". This is done so the mapmaker can always go back and make adjustments, remove or add stuff, change textures and so on.
Since a .map file holds all the information of your map, (ie. the coordinates and size of your brushes, the positioning of the textures etc.) the .map file will always be bigger in size than the .bsp file that is created afterwards.
MOHRadiant is the editor which lets you design and organize your map. It can only read and save .map files. The game however can only read the compressed (compiled) version of the map so this is why a map needs to be converted first to a format the game can read, ie. the bsp-format. This is why your map needs to be compiled.
By the way, when backing up your work, the .map file is the file to treasure.
