First your gonna need a program called pakscape.... and either adobe photoshop or jasc paintshop pro.... most modding has to do with editing textures... these textures are always saved as a ".tga" wat mods do is simply replace the games ".tga" with the ".tga" you made.... therefore you can control how pretty much everything works in your game.... This is a very very general question and i would suggest going to Nemisis tutorials, he has some great tutorials on alot of stuff, his site got me started with my modding, i have made compasses weapon skins, soldier skins, and more, good luck!
