Now that the stock multiplayer maps are available, I see that the devs used nodraw quite a bit instead of caulk.
I am looking for the reason why and what the advantages of using nodraw are instead of caulk.
My thought so far is that nodraw is used on detail brushes because nodraw is not structural?
And use caulk on on all structural brushes?
What does this affect?

The engine does not draw "nodraw" or caulk.
Caulk is used as a preformance booster because the game does not have to draw those surfaces--ones that the players can not see anyway. If a players sees caulk, it will look like a "hall-of-mirrors". So, only use it where they can't see it. Caulk blocks vis.
Nodraw is used to hide brush surfaces that would otherwise be seen. Like the back and sides of a treeline or a balcony railing. A brush that has nodraw on it can only have one other texture. Using more than one will cause a "mixed fence mask" error.

Ok good explanation and it is what I was thinking too.
I only wonder why the devs used nodraw on the stock maps like they did. They used it extensively on brushes that would never be seen, such as the backside of walls, under the ground, all over basically, and then also used caulk in other areas but similar conditions such as behind walls and under the map.
An example of what I am talking about... look at obj_team4 (bridge) map released by EA. Look at how much nodraw was used in places that, at least myself, would use caulk. Such as in the hotel area, nodraw is used in places where I would have used cualk.
That is why I initially asked this question.
