I (along with work colleagues) play DM/TDM games via our LAN and we've used maps from other sites and they have all been .pk3 files which all work fine.

The maps on here are some of the best yet, but the downloads are big and I'm not sure where each folder should go. Yes, what a noob etc...

We are on macs too, but that shouydnt confuse the matter, should it?

Where do the folders go after downloading them?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hmm, well all your realy looking for in a .zip or.rar file is just the .pk3 inside.
This contains all the textures/scripts/shaders etc as i'm sure you know so there shouldn't be multiple folders to place.
If you point me to a post or a download where your confused I'll be able to help you.

Thanks,

That is one of the downloads from FileHost that I got. In the 3.5mb download I got about 5 folders I think. They were called maps, music, scripts, textures, ui, and a file called berlino_v2.bsp

I just thought these would go in the main folder. No dice :(

Cheers for your help.

Well its very odd that you got all the folders as opposed to them all being contained in a .pk3 :?
The map you have highlighted is the exception rather than the rule and on reading the review...it may not be worth the effort
If you do want to view the map I advise you get pakscape located here:

http://users.1st.net/kimberly/Tutorial/down.htm

To use you simply open the program (pakscape) click on all the folders.. CTRL to select them all(maps/textures/scripts..etc and then "save as" (name of map) *file type* .pk3

If I have made this process sound difficult I assure you that it isn't, if you think this is too much trouble then I advise you to pick another map that is correctly packaged.

Sounds like to me that they opened one to many compressed files. Did it DL as a zip or rar? The pk3 is contained inside, don't open that, just move that to main.
the pk3 is only simulating the folder structure of the game. you would have to put all those files in the correct folders, much easy to copy the structure with a pk3.

Someone may have renamed the .pk3 to .zip in that case change .zip back to pk3 and put it in main . I know some of the time pk3's don't seem to download that is why some of them are inside .zip files even though they themselves are .zip files with a pk3 extention .

Thanks for help so far.
I dl'd a few more and they had .pk3 files in them.
I also came across a small tutorial that said I should put all those folders in another newly created folder and zip that new folder, but rename it with the .pk3 extension rather than .zip

Unfortunately that didnt work.
