I need some references from Common textures, that which is what a doing.
Thanks!
Most textures in "common" are useless and not to be used.
I will not cover them all, here are the most used.
Ill do this in alphabetical order.
Area portal - this is used to create portals within a map and to help the engine ignore certain areas within your map. I advise looking up tutorials about correct usage of
area portals
Caulk - Should be used on all unseen faces of any brush, does not get drawn by the engine.
Hint -Used in conjunction with vis/area portals etc to aid the performance of the map (again look for tutorials).
Ladder - As it suggests, it is only of use when making a ladder or any over object to climb verticaly- i.e a drainpipe.
No draw - This should be used with any masked texture, it is non solid and will therefore allow bullets to pass through.. ie. railings/grates etc.
Origin - This is mainly used (not only) in association with doors.
Player clip - This is used to block the player from any particular place that you do not want a player to be able to access.
Trigger - This is used to create triggers within a map...small example you would place a trigger use, textured with this to give the command for a locked door. (there are many other uses for this)
Vis - This is used for manual vis in order to help the vis process decide what you can and cannot see from an area within your map (I advise looking up tutorials regarding vis)
Weapon - A brush textured with this will prevent any bullet/grenade etc from passing through it.
Others that can be used are :
mud,
grass, metal
and others...
These are used on a brush to sound like/act like mud, metal, grass respectively.
Others like Rain etc are obviously used for the purpose of their name, others can be used but I personaly find them not of much help.
I have typed this very quick and this is just very basic and if I have missed something then sorry
