Telemarketers are the devil

Post by hogleg »

I don't know about you guy's but I get bombed everyday with useless telemarketing calls. and now its cell phones as well!

Effective 2/9/06 all cell phone numbers will be available for Telemarketers. You can make one simple phone call 1-888-382-1222 to place your cell or home number on a five-year protected list by the FTC.

I arrived at my mums about 7pm one evening, she was panicking cos some double glazing replacement window guys were coming round at 8pm, she had just had a call from them before I arrived.

The thing is she just had new windows a couple years back, these swine bullied her into letting the guys come round in 1 hours time??

I called them back :)

hahaha, they didnt come round :)
Philip II of Macedon sent a message to Sparta:
"If I win this war, you will be slaves forever."
The Spartan ephors sent back a one word reply: "If".

Its a real problem over here, I get about 5-10 calls a day with some guy from india saying "ello, Im very very glad to tell you about an amazing offer for you sir", One time I said "hold on a minute" set the phone down and took my dogs for a walk, 15 minutes later I noticed the phone off the hook so I picked it up and said Hello? this voice says "ello, yes sir......
lol

I usually just hang up or play some trick on em. it gets real old quick!

i have a phone set up on my desk just for this purpouse with caller id . if it says ''caller unknown'' or starts with an 800 #, i click on a file i have on my desktop and click talk at the same time. the file plays an endless loop of a female voice that's been edited to sound almost like a program stating (over and over) something along the lines of :

you are attempting to contact a residential number that has contacted your company by registered mail with a request to be removed from your company's calling and or contact list. please hang up now and discontinue calling this number. your phone number has been fowarded to this state's attorney general.

the endless loop takes care of those annoying companies who try use a recording before a CS guy comes on. remember, bill collection agencies by law can not contact you after you have requested by registered mail that you not be contacted through the mail (other than a call stating they will not be contacing you via phone anymore) IN MOST STATES.

also, bill collection agencies that contact you with a CS guy are NOT attornies. they're regular schmoes with a script. don't say ''yes this is mr. _______ " just keep asking them who they are and what business they have contacing YOUR number. they'll ask if you are mr. __________ but stand firm and ask why they are calling this number. don't give out your name or confirm you are who they are asking for or that you even know who they are asking for. just keep stating this is your number and/or you are the person on the phone bill. they'll be lost unless you follow their script. they have the upperhand in that most people freak when a bill collector calls and believes the person calling is some kind of lawyer or a person with authority. they're not, they're making maybe 9.00/hr. if they keep saying they have important personal information only to be discussed with the person who they named, simply state that only you answer the phone and therefore the company shouldn't be calling anymore since the will not discuss any information with anyone other than the party they mentioned (which is why you don't identify yourself with a name )

they call you once, you put 10 of there's out of a job.[/i]
