use pakscape to open pak0.pk3
open the scripts folder
find the general_structure.shader (good shader with a lot of surface parms)

open the shader
use ''find'' function to find the type of surface parm you're custom texture is going to use (ie. ''wood'' ''metal'' ''stone'' ''plaster'' ''gravel''....)
copy the part of the script using the surface parm you want

ie.
textures/general_structure/bunker_door3
{
qer_keyword door
qer_keyword metal
qer_keyword rusted
surfaceparm metal
{
map textures/general_structure/bunker_door3.tga
nextbundle
map $lightmap
}
}
replace lines with texture folder refrenced with the following :

textures/yourtexturefolder/yourtexture

you do not have to change the file type from .tga . however the file must be either .tga or .jpg .

click save as and make sure to change the file type to all files . name our file whateveryouwant.shader (must be a shader file type)
textures/yourtexturefolder/yourtexture
{
qer_keyword door
qer_keyword metal
qer_keyword rusted
surfaceparm metal
{
map textures/yourtexturefolder/yourtexture.tga
nextbundle
map $lightmap
}
}

use pakscape to create a .pk3, call it whatever.pk3.
create the following folders : scripts
texures

place your custom.shader script in scripts
place your custom folder (and any subfolders) in textures

In Game Surface Types

Note: The in game surface types are not the same as the search keywords material types.

The surface type for a shader is specified via a "surfaceparm type" line, where type is the surface type to use.

Example:
surfaceparm wood

Note that only one surface type can be used at a time, and so only one should be specified in a shader.

Here's a list of each of the surface types that can be specified:
wood - wooden surface
metal - metal surface (like metal plating)
stone - stone or rock surface
dirt - dirt surface
grill - metal grill surface
grass - grass covered surface
mud - muddy or squishy sounding surface
puddle - water puddle surface
glass - glass surface
gravel - rocky gravel surface
sand - sandy surface
foliage - tree tops, bushes, or leaf covered surface
snow - snow covered surface
carpet - carpeted surface
