Sig sizes

Post by bdbodger »

The .map staff has been thinking of makeing some changes to the sig size rules . Current sig size rule is 400x200 max size . We are thinking of increaseing the width to 500 . The height is a different story we can leave it at 200 which some of us think is too high or just leave it . I prefer sigs that are like banners . If you have a look at JV's sig which is about 500x100 you will see what I mean it does the job and I don't really think sigs need to be very high . Some members seem to use sigs as a sort of spam I think when they are too large or have more than one . We welcome the memebers to express thier thoughts about this .

i've always been used to 100X400 px (though i sometimes go up to 150) , i think it give the sig a nice clean look. i once even went with a 85X272 .

I think you should ban or restrict the use of animated Gif sigs. They are very distrating when you're trying to read posts and they cause lag in page loading time. It should be an easy fix, just reduce the number of bytes allowed for signatures and avatars.

By the way, could someone please change my rank back to nornal?

the problem comes with offsite URLs, because there's no quick or efficient way to find out how big it is without actually downloading it, by which time the point of scaling / filtering is sort of defeated. plus it blows bandwidth.

so it's more practical to just change the rules until it all looks right and manually moderate that.

I second that. :) I don't think it'll be a big problem to manually enforce the sig rules.

i have no problem with losing animated (.gif ) sigs, granted a reader who finds the animations annoying needs only to scroll the sig below the bottom window line but i dig/understand the concern for bandwidth stretch . what about offering a custom (small) .map sig like the one firefox made the other day (offtopic/sig test sticky) ? makes a cool sig or a great sig add on .

Standard sig sizes on most forums are around 100 (max 150) x 400 (max 500) I make all my sigs 100 x 500 because it looks good, doesnt break the forums tables and well.. why have a huge one anyways? So i vote what ever the staff decide because im sure it will be the best solution for everybody! (also, a file size for the sig wouldn't go a miss as some people (not naming names) have huge ones with videos on it that last ages. (apart from pkm's i love reading his.. just make it smaller in height mate)

*EDIT*
Woops, i do beleive mine is at 100 x 600 now (which actually isn't that bad) now idea why i went for that size. Kinda doesnt make sense me saying 100 x 500's fine and having a 100 x 600 sig. I'll change it if rules require!
