Lighting????

I have been so wrapped up in my map that I have not
compiled in a very long time. The last time I did I
remember that while my map was lit up nicely, I was
not getting any shadows and could not dim the lighting
inside the buildings. Now I have suncolor, ambient, and
ambientlighting in effect. But when I changed them
nothing happened. If suncolor is the intensity and color
of light then what is the point of ambient. I thought
ambient was the outside intensity of light and ambient-
lighting for the inside? I like need a lighting specialist
or something! I don't have worldspawn assigned to
anything, but I thought that you can't apply worldspawn
to anything, say like the skybox. Is that the problem.
Please if anyone can help me with the lighting issue
it would be greatly appreciated...........

you never gave us your settings for suncolor, ambientlight, etc...
Here is the definitions from the scroll window on the entity menu for 'worldspawn':
"ambientlight" ambient lighting to be applied to all entities
"ambient" ambient lighting to be applied to all entities, use _color to specify color
"suncolor" color (and intensity) of the sun. Full daylight would be "70 70 70"

Shadow Knight after you load your map in mohradiant (everytime)
when your done the last thing you have to do is click on the top of your skybox and add the overall light
key: suncolor
value: 70 70 70 / or what ever
then save your map and compile
if you use MOHpile you can choose some of the shadow options

I didn't need to do that and my map has shadows and everything is normal. Is there a benefit to using the ceiling brush as a source? Never tried it.

Not sure about using cealing brush being all that different but it does seem to make some differance

So you should use the skybox as the worldspawn? Where can I download
Mohpile and is it better than mbuilder?

See at first I was using very low light, ambientlighting at 4.3 5 4.6.
It was pitch black indooors but lit like dusk outside. Then I raised
ambientlighting to 50 50 50. The inside brightened up and I also
added ambient at 60 60 60. But I don't know if adding ambient
lit the outside more or if raising ambientlighting lights up the
inside and the outside. To me I have not really seen the difference
between ambient and ambientlighting. Now I have no shadows
either. The only time I got shadows was when the ambientlighting
was very low. Is there a good site or link where light is given
its proper explaination. Where it tells you how each key will
respond and apply to your map?

if someone finds such a site, i want to know it, too!!
About lights in the worldspawn:
sunlight is light from the sun

, i.e. light that makes shadows
the key suncolor changes intensity (the higher the numbers...) and color of sun light
(by the way: sunflarename for night is "none")
ambient light is "coming from everywhere", like daylight on a rainy day, so you can use it to produce a basic brightness in your map, but it won't make shadows (where should they fall with light from everywhere?).
If ambient light is too high, the brushes which ought to be darkened because of (sunlight-)shadows get so much ambient light that the shadows vanish
THis is what I would say, please correct me, if I'm wrong!

worldspawn sets outside light 75 75 75 is daylite about noon
your building will be dark unless you add a light in it
30 30 30 is about dusk
lower than that makes ground dark and sky like noon light
also the texture you chose makes a differance too
MOHDay at 35 35 35 is like a dark cloudy day
but use one of the nite skys textures and it's a full moon casting shadows
by same token 75 75 75 on a nite sky texture will be like a full moon with out shadows
also there are setting in MOHpile that either set or remove static shadows and more
