Having one HELL of a time with LOD Terrain
HELP! I'm trying to make a very VERY simple ditch. Just a ditch. For referance, the kind you put animals in at a zoo. I can't get the ditch to have a nice, relatively smooth base. I tried the .tga image thing and always got some flat thing. Tried manipulating the LOD with the verticies and always got a pointed bottom, and for the heck of it tried the simple patch mesh, that was actually easier, but still didn't work. Any advice, tips, tricks? Anything? I need help making a ditch. I feel so dumb.

Select the vertices around the ditch and lock them (LOD Terrain --> lock/unlock vertices; they'll be green when locked); then select the vertices on the botton you want to be smooth and drag them down all together, so they'll all have the same height. is that what you mean?

I don't use lod terrain much, but, what if you put a solid, flat brush in the bottom after using lod terrain, or better yet, just use brushwork. You can use the clipper tool to make wedges for the side, do a brush for the bottom, and miter your corners. Seems it would be simpler and easier for you to do that.
Making a ditch is much easier with LOD than with clipped brushes, and it looks loads better and smoother too... Don't be as scared of LOD as i was when i started with mapping

Maybe you check out some tutorials, like the one on manstein's site
*edit* there was also a good vid tut on LOD, the site is down i think, but i still got it somewhere, so give me a shout if you should need it.
