I'm working on a zombie shooter game (think experiencing Dawn of the Dead in first person ) on the Quake III engine and I need to choose a name. Take the poll, please! Thanks in advance. :)

they're all ok but they all sound like 80s action movies became , redudent. as for the 11th plague, that would be the first (of 4) horseman, pestilence.

stick it out there and just go with filth or SpoilinNation

Come on, only 5 votes? :?

I wanted to have * of the Dead to have a connection with George A. Romero's films, but I couldn't think of anything that would work. :P

Lol, PKM, it's yours that sound like 80s action films titles. :P

see you two knuckleheads missed the point, your titles don't sound like 80s titles ; i was stating how in the 80s after action movies became big, all the titles started sounding alike ie. you'd have die hard then all of a sudden steel vengence, night vengence, cold vengence, raw vengence.... .

I think you should go more specific.... god is in the details they say.... and so should a good title be. I would agree with avoiding genre sounding names, which not only would include splatter classic types, but also now the prototypical(as defined in 'In the Mouth of Madness) perfect name - although in that case it was applied to authors - patterned after 'Stephen King' it is the 2 or 3 syllable word followed by a one syllable... ie... Resident Evil, Silent Hill.... and oddly enough, 'the best sounding phrase in the english language' to paraphrase from 'Donnie Darko'... Cellar Door... If the name happens to fit such a pattern... well so much the better... they do roll off the tongue, but sometiems you can just TELL people are are just thesaurusing a name.

I couldnt suggest a name based on just zombies.... but I would suggest naming it less for the genre it happens to be in, and more for its essence....

but thats just my opinion. =)

11th Plague is the worst, a name shouldnt have to be explained, lol.

It doesn't have to be explained, a name and cover art makes someone want to pick it up while thinking eitehr "OMGWTF A SEQUEL", or "What's this?" It's like Call of Cthulu.

Another idea is to try something in latin. Everything sounds cool in Latin.

"Undecim vomica" - "11th plague"

yea but everythign also sounds obscure in latin.... which is a fine line.

I love latin, wish I spoke or really read it... but then again, I am a *bit* of an elitist...

which actually could go either way.... either my perception is skewed in that I believe most people dont see a latin name and become intrigued... or I am correct in assuming that it is a rather small percentage, myself included, who would be immediately attracted to a latin name....

hmmm the duality of human nature....

you said it shouldnt have to, which i took to mean that if it had a name like Call of Cthulu people would go "wtf?" and just leave it, because it didnt make sense.

could go either way i guess.
